From a Pro israeli perspective I'm very sure the best approach would have been to evacuate the civilians and clear gaza piece by piece. SDF + USA support managed to clear most of the city until ISIS negotiated a retreat with about 650 SDF figthers, 1400 ISIS figthers and somewhere above 1600 civilians killed. Similar to gaza isis didnt allow civilians to evacuate (and quite many didnt want to either) and similiarly ISIS was very well dug in and SDF had a modern airforce in support. 

Whats different is thought: SDF is a militia that in most aspects was badly equiped and a big part of their troops was new recruited arab militias that only had a few months of training. ISIS was way better armed than Hamas and using much more dangerous tactics like suicide bombers,  well armed SVBIEDS, State of the art weapons captured from the iraqi military and even tanks and military grade ATGMs in large quantities and had some early success with drone dropped grenades. the only thing that is harder in gaza is the tunnel network which is more extensive. 

When one take into account that israel have 1. excellent tanks 2. well trained military 3. exemplary equipment and perhaps the best medical evacuation strategies of any war (SDFs main one was transport in the back of a pick up to a field hospital and then a 2 hour drive to nearest proper hospital) 4. anti drone measures and more modern airforce and intelligence tools, they should be able to do the same job with say maybe a 5th of the casualities and a 10th of the killed ones. 

what they needed to do is go in, limit risk filled strikes(ie dont raze a house to get a dude with a AK47) unless its in an actual battle situation, take many operational pauses, treat those fleeing decently both prisoners and civilians, allow many pauses to evacuate the civilians instead of pushing them onwards to the center of the area and in final take and hold the ground not allowing the enemy to sneak back. and allow some aid in when possible.

By then putting the civilians back in cleared areas and allowing free flow of aid there you limit the possibilities for new recruits, you lower the motivation of the enemy to protect their families, lower the local and international outrage and increase the number of volountary evacautions. 

If one extrapolates the battle of gaza in scale to gaza its basically a tenth of everything, 2M instead of 200k inhabitants ca 50k defenders instead of 4-7k ish and around 160k attackers rotating instead of ca 15k. Say israel did the exact same tactic it would mean about 15-20k civilian casualities and a similar amount of hamas members and maybe 1000 dead soldiers if one take into account just the equipment and medevac differences. 

Its more than they suffered now but at the same time at a lot lower international cost and a shorter war.

The “Rafah” model you mentioned, and the explicit plan for almost all of Gaza, means flattening everything. “Terrorist infrastructure” means all infrastructure and means of life, using bulldozers and explosives. The whole point is that Gazans will *not* be able to live there. There is no “Build” phase. This is not a counterinsurgency operation. There will be a few concentration camps with miserable conditions and the rest of Gaza will be flattened no man’s land called a “security zone.” That is the *explicit plan.* It is not hidden. It has already been enacted in significant parts of Gaza.

Also, in reality this is not at all about rescuing hostages. For anyone who cares about the current Israeli hostages, fyi most of the remaining ones are going to die and their bodies will never be found.

When the Ukraine war started, I recalled the very first strikes was to disable telecommunition network among other high priority targets ? For all these countries to stand by, not even putting sanctions on Israel, it is disgusting.
