Shashi Tharoor's credentials in public speaking &amp; international diplomacy are undisputed, However, he's the guy to be sent to a logical US Government. He's the perfect guy to lobby democrats. Trump is totally different. Logical reasoning and factual debates are useless for him. 

He just called Pakistan "Brilliant" and"we cannot forget them", "I told my people to call them to do trade, we do very little trade with them". Just because they praised him, and flattery is all that he cares about. He's like a 6 year old leading the world.

Modi would be a better person to manage Trump's ego through hollow promises and fake praises, and bait for personal favors like what Qatar and Middle East are doing. That's good, even if it may not succeed. I don't think anyone thinks the root causes for the conflict are easy to fix (Kashmir situation is now almost 100 years old after all ...) but there may still be other agreements that can be reached to defuse the situation. This was also said in street interviews by common people, who were a) glad that the war did not escalate, and b) some of whom also said the root cause of the conflict needs to be resolved via dialogue. Perhaps the common people in Pakistan realise that they need to put more pressure onto the military, as the military attempts to disobey civilian rule (see the coup in Myanmar to see what can happen if the military is not controlled by the people; they overthrew the little democracy that the people in Myanmar had left, leading to an uprising that is still going on).

If Congress can’t make Tharoor a PM candidate, they should at least elevate him high enough that he will be a strong deputy (a Union Minister if Congress wins) to Rahul Gandhi.

If Shashi Tharoor was leading Congress, then they wouldn't have gotten &lt; 100 seats . He was sidelined by Gandhi's during the Congress election as well. Despite being in opposition, he always defended India at global scale, unlike RaGa who criticized India at global scale.
