Naxalites thrived in very remote areas almost out of the reach of modern civilization where extreme poverty and exploitation of the poor was the norm. 

It is difficult to convince young people to take arms against the state if they have some deep grievance against the society / state.

Now there is new roads and other networks (especially smartphone and social media) has connected the people of those remote regions to the mainland. So the Naxals has lost their support quickly.

Indian army controlled areas had better overall growth than people under naxal rule, naxals were unjust and did horrendous human atrocities in the name of ideology. Also people in those areas weren't ideologically or religiously driven like Islamic terrorist of north so it was easier to convince them to work with the government forces.
Declined funds and stream of revenue for the movement.
Establishment of proper rules for use of forests, green tribunal helped elevate worries of tribals in those areas.

The recent central govt empowerment schemes like zero balance bank accounts. Farmers getting direct cash into accounts. Other govt schemes like homes, gas cylinders etc. have made those disaffected feel more connected with the state. Making it harder for naxals to recruit people. Also penetration of mobile data and smart phones have connected the people from far off places to the mainstream. 

I think govt schemes like loans to small enterprise for things like opening shops and eateries etc have had a lot impact on reducing the support base of naxals. 

Also roads and railways are now going to places earlier they were not reaching. Easy access to transportation makes it possible to go to district places and taluka places for economic opportunities.

Well for starters majority of naxal leaders were non tribals while not allowing tribals in there leadership roles except hidma 

Next they used extortion, prevented development work which would irritate any community 

Finally indian government implemented a through 4 pronged strategy which revolved around ,counter propogenda, development, surrender and rehabilitation abd leadership decapitation

China sidelined the Naxals and cut off support in the 90s. They slipped into irrelevance as the Indian state finally got around to funding infrastructure in the region. 

Not sure what the Naxals were doing in the 90s but if it’s like every other communist insurrectionary group across the world……. They were collapsing and becoming drug cartels and jungle cults basically loosing whatever public support they had in rural regions they operated from. Took an extra generation to realize “these people are deranged groups of bandits at this point in time”.

Survival out in the forest is hard, it's tough life. The way naxalism works is by giving the tribals food, and exploiting them for their purpose, nothing more than that. 

With time, government food programmes, including international aid boomed , now people were getting free rice and subsidy, the administration reached close to the naxal zones , literally gave away free money and food to the locals, who knowing the way of the jungle, helped the government forces terminate the top naxals, rest of them lost morale as funding was cut , international funding of naxals was down , there was no political purposes, future goverment gave money and aid to naxals to give back their AK-47's and join a normal life . Which many did .

As poverty and hunger was slowly controlled, thanks to billions in aid from centre and international organization and increased interest among bjp in removing domestic terrorism also played a rule , earlier it was cat and mouse game

Someone rightly said the biggest problem of BJP is they don’t talk of their achievements enough. It’d be nice to see a summarisation in the form of a yearly document on what the party has done well in different states and at centre.

I’m from jharkhand and i cant agree enough. The naxal areas which use to lie between the towns in the forests used to be very disturbed. Naxals used to kidnap, extort, murder and god knows what not. People werent even allowed to use the road post evening. Now its like any other highway.

This is an insane achievement. One of my friend worked in Coal India in Jharkhand about 14 years ago. He said the way it worked then was, government machinery was used to find coal. Once a layer of coal was discovered, the officials used to phone a politician. He would then come with his machinery, take all coal he could and leave. Then again government machinery to dig further down, layer of coal off goes the call to the politician. The reason these politicians were untouchable was because they would give substantial bribes to these naxalites. The soil in most of these belts is very rich in many things coal, iron etc. The amount of money lost due to these naxalites is insane and it never ever covered by the press. Thank god these areas are not border areas else this would have taken forever

Yes. They have agreed to put down weapons and have a peace talk with the govt. Basically, they have understood that they can't win against the aggressive search and destroy initiative by the govt. They are now saying that we want to get mixed in the mainstream and now all the future protests w.r.t the CPI(M) will be in cooperation and understanding with govt without arms and ammunition. Also, their party may be split into two groups, which is inevitable because some will still want the blood way to continue, while others in a major leadership group will resort to surrender.

Canadians funded the farm law protests and managed to get a country of India's size to repeal the farm laws that only a small minority was against. Trudeau himself supported it, calling it democratic, although he wasn't so keen when truckers protested in Canada.

I am not sure what kind of SOP can help in such cases. Canada's grip on Punjab needs to be addressed through negotiations with them now that they may be a bit more cooperative due to being in an early stage recession. Maybe we cut them a favorable trade deal and they allow us to carry out reforms
