Tbf I've witnessed the same shit on plenty of other flights. Some nonfunctional head units in seats is nearly a given and no AC on the ground is also very common because the engines are at idle power. Running the APU for AC is pretty wasteful.

Aircraft mechanic on 787 here. This plane is very electronics heavy and when it doesnt have adequate ground power, the plane will automatically load shed non essentials. Air India being the airline that it is, probably cheaped out on ground power units and not all ground power cables are hooked up. I know for certain these air conditioning packs are electrically driven and draw quite a bit of power. Really not a whole lot here besides the window shades. The new electronic window shades, especially the first batch like this aircraft, have a problem with the gel thats sandwiched in between the panes yellowing after time. Id say  that the amount of windows that aren't corrected is indicative of an overall lack of care from the airline. Most airlines have an interior standard they like to meet and if they cant maintain the small stuff, it might show a bigger problem on how they maintain the rest of the aircraft.

This is not unusual at all for Air India. Nothing works on AI flights. Screens never work. Audio doesn't work. During one of my unlucky flights on it, my neighbour's movie had no audio. We realized a couple of hours later that his movie's audio was coming out of my audio jack. Not just that, the seats and equipment is literally broken on it with huge cracks you can stick your fingers in. This is totally normal for Air India and I'd imagine many other airlines with aging fleets.

The AC is powered by electric air compressors on the 787 and not by the bleed air from the engines like on a 737. This means that there is no need to turn off the packs - and therefore no need to shutdown the AC on a 787.

If this is the exact same plane that he uses frequently, then this would be indicative of the airline company neglecting the necessary maintenance for the aircraft. If this happens all the time with other Dreamliner aircraft, then this should be a red flag to issue an order to take them all out of service until the design flaw is addressed or maintenance that proves it is able to be in service.

While the electronics appear to be a mix of working and not working, this could also be indicative of the aircraft being supplied with an insufficient amount of power. This could be caused by the ground power supply or the APU. Since aircraft crashed after liftoff, it could've been an underlying issue with the APU taking over to supply power before liftoff. An insufficient amount of power will cause the engines to perform poorly and generate the thrust needed to allow the aircraft to takeoff properly.

After this incident, this would be a good time to perform some kind of emergency maintenance on all Dreamliners of the same series, focusing on the APU and electrical systems.

Hot flashes and vomiting on a plane with no AC was the worst flight experience of my fucking life. It was well over 90 degrees by the time we landed and have no room to move. It just blows my mind how air travel has gotten progressively worse instead of improved

My dad worked on Boeing/Spirit airplanes for over 30 years and retired about 9 years ago. He loved it until management really started changing the dynamic of the company. He kinda just loved the job and loved the planes he was making before he retired. He told me that he watched the crash video, and that it looked like the wings were not in full takeoff position when the plane leaves the runway. Could electrical malfunctions cause control errors like that on the wings? I have no clue if he is right or not, but I’d be curious if his assessment is accurate.

I think this bafoon is flying for the first time in his life,  it's quite natural to switch off the ac when waiting on the runway as this will save fuel. As for the remote and the touch screen will only work when the flight is flying. The settings of these gadgets are with the air hostess crew, they do a reset function for them to start working
