Kerala Child Rabies Case Despite Vaccination

A seven-year-old girl from Kollam, Kerala, has contracted rabies after being bitten by a stray dog, despite receiving multiple doses of the rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin serum. She is currently in critical condition, on ventilator support at SAT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Health officials are concerned about the effectiveness of rabies vaccines in certain high-risk cases, particularly when dog bites occur on or near sensitive areas like the head and neck. Similar cases in Kerala have raised alarms, prompting calls for improved wound assessment and faster medical interventions following dog bites.

What news is this. How can we check the efficacy?

We still have no test verifying the rabies shot actually stops dogs from getting rabies. How about we start there before injuring so many pets.

But why vaccination after mass killing of dogs. What were they doing before mass killing... Why now after so many innocent deaths... who is responsible for all lost lives...

I think they should start an animal shelter. Where you try to find adoptees, if an animal is aggressive or rabid euthanasia.

FIRST CLEAR THE DOG MENACE IN THE COUNTRY. NEARLY 20 INDIAN PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES IN LAST MONTH ALONE DUE TO DOG BITES AND SUBSEQUENT RABIES INFECTIONS.

Strays in my area are the reason why I don’t step out of my home anymore

Rest in Peace 🌹 When are people going to understand we shouldn't be feeding stray dogs if we're not going to take responsibility for them.

I have a doubt, Can rabies have a delayed effect? I mean like you got in contact with an infected dog (bite or scratch or licking etc.) and you are fine for 6 months or something and then you start having all the symptoms?
