India Nationwide Civil Defence Mock Drill Following Pahalgam Terror Attack
On May 7, 2025, India conducted a nationwide civil defence mock drill across various states, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Punjab, as a preparedness measure following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. These mock drills involved strategic blackouts and simulation exercises to raise public awareness about security and safety measures. This nationwide initiative was aligned with India's recent military operation, Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The drills were designed to ensure readiness in the face of potential security threats and involved coordination between multiple states and agencies. Citizens were advised on actions during blackouts, such as covering windows and avoiding light-emitting devices near windows. The Gujarat Chief Minister and other state leaders monitored the drills to avoid public panic and ensure effective execution of the exercises.
Why This Matters
A nationwide civil defence mock drill is highly relevant to public interest as it highlights government initiatives to prepare and educate citizens for potential security threats, raising awareness and engagement on social platforms about national security readiness and community involvement.
Public Sentiment Summary
Public sentiment around India's nationwide civil defence mock drill is mixed, fluctuating between cautious support for preparedness measures and critique of government response. There is strong appreciation for the importance of civilian preparedness, with comparisons to Israel as a model. However, skepticism exists around the effectiveness and transparency of these drills, alongside deep concern about the potential escalation of conflict with Pakistan. The discourse is marked by a yearning for peace, with highlights of fear over war's impact on civilians. Critique is directed at media coverage and government action, with some expressing unity and patriotism amidst rising fears.

Watching the children hide under the desks and tables reminds me of the nuclear drills I had in school as a child in Florida back in the 60's
Israel is a small nation, approximately 20,000 sq kms a little bigger than my own State Nagaland. But they are strong because all civilians are also trained and prepared for attacks. I'm proud that our Leaders have finally realised how important it is to have civilian participation besides a prepared defence force.
India should also train its people like Israel does. Even youngsters must know what to do during emergencies.
In times like these, it’s important for us as citizens to stay calm and not get carried away by provocative media narratives. War is not just about borders and politics—it deeply affects the lives of our soldiers and innocent families.
War is not solution.. Big disaster for mother nature and all creatures.
Aww hope u are safe as a 9 yr old iam soo scared jai hind everyone
No war please
My mom said when she was little she had to face war situations. She said War doesn't achieve anything rather we lose progress.
Stay together guys ..when a crisis happens, understand we are Indians..we are one ..
The drills will also be helpful during natural disasters like earthquakes, wildfires, and floods.
Remember war only happens when there is no other option. And there is no other option right now. We have been facing this nonsense for 30-40 years. No amount of development is worth it if the civilians can't feel safe in their own country.
I hope nothing like war escalate further. It only harms innocent citizens. We indians stand together!
The drill looks so half assed. But i hope we are stronger than what we may look like.
Nothing but another distractionary tactic to keep people's minds off of real issues plaguing the country. If only the central government would act with such urgency with regards to unemployment, education, and healthcare...
Wait till they come to know what happened in Pooch… pak attacked.. 20-30 casualties in JK.. best part, no main stream media is covering that or reporting it.. just Op Sindoor.. what about what is happening now with us??
You just celebrated civilian death.
Such stupidity. Today was supposed to be a mock drill and blackout. If and when Pak tries to do air strikes and we have a blackout, these are the people who will expose our cities to the bombers.
No one wins in a war they just get an upper hand
Seems it will escalate. Pakistani media showing that Pakistani forces destroyed Indian brigade headquarters in retaliation. A child is killed on Pakistani side & couple of women injured.
