Iran isn't a new conflict. It is the Middle Eastern front of a global conflict.

r/collapse is supposed to be about the overall macro issues of collapse. There is only one war happening right now, and this thread is just to address an individual theater of it.

But we don't like that, do we? We don't like thinking about how the ecological collapse of our planet due to human-induced climate change, industrial scale pollution, and rampant overuse of non-renewable resources has actually led the world into a global conflict. We prefer our collapse to be gradual... and far enough down the road that we can pretend to do something while really doing nothing.

But hey, go ahead. Pretend that climate change is just about carbon emissions, and treat methane emissions as isolated and unrelated. I think everyone is panicking of nothing. Everything appears to be very well coordinated. US bombs Fordow after about a dozen trucks visit the site a day or two before. Then Iran hits US bases with a few rockets that was advertised beforehand. None of this signals a wider war, especially since no other country is coming to Irans aid. This Iran conflict is a small sideshow, don’t lose focus on China, internal US conflict and climate.

Trump's gamble was essentially a lightning-fast version of "shock and awe": if you absolutely nail it and destroy Iran's entire nuclear capacities in one fell swoop, alongside Israel killing a lot of their defense leaders, it's supposed to be so overwhelming that it brings the regime to its knees immediately. Sort of a reverse Hiroshima.


And just like with Iraq, Trump has forgotten (or rather never learned) the basic notion that shock and awe does not work when people in charge have nothing to lose. It *may* work against some democratic power with some strong sense of duty, or an idea of what war is "supposed to be", or concern for their citizens; it will never work and has never worked against insane theocratic dictatures.

Nope. I believe in shutting down Iran's nuclear program, its a threat to the US. Threatening US citizens, as Iran and Yemen have done should be perceived as a dangerous move to make. 

But for this, let other countries in the region sort it out.  I don't know the legal rights of closing down the straits, but if they have the legal right to do so, they probably have tax rights etc., if not let whoever does own the straits deal with it.

Go back to the embargo, freezing of assets, and destroying any new nuclear facilities we find or they try build.
