In the United States, gang issues have been resolved in one of a few ways.

Firstly is through force. Sometimes mass arrests and imprisonment of gang leaders was done, and this did lead to gangs growing less organized and dangerous, especially in the 20th century. Another thing, probably far more effective, is cutting the income of these gangs. In the 1920s gangs here were a major issue because they controlled the production and sale of alcohol, which was banned in the US back then. When alcohol was legalized the income of these gangs dried up. A similar thing is happening today with marijuana. My point is that the government must know how these gangs fund their activities and then make these things less profitable. These are both top-down solutions.

The final solution is a bottom up one: community investment and involvement in areas where gang s are prevalent. The Black Panther Party is an American example of this. They were an African American Marxist militant group which funded and ran a lot of things like community kitchens, education, etc. in Oakland, a city in America notorious for high rates of crime and violence. Because of their ideology (their brand of armed Marxism drew the attention of the FBI) and because of infighting, they eventually broke up, but the point is that these sort of ground-up efforts to improve the community and prevent people from falling into gangs is possible.

To defeat savages sometimes you have to be equally savage.

What’s the SGPC doing about such critical issues affecting Sikhi? The rampant conversions and the drug culture should take precedence over stopping people from doing yoga at Harmandir Sahib.

the government is also to be blamed. drugs will never be stopped. it's impossible. there has never been a society in history where drugs haven't been used. there needs to widespread drug rehabilitation centres. I live in a top 3 tier 1 city and in my locality itself there is 1 rehabilitation centre, that doesn't have the drugs to treat disorder. also drug "problems" are mostly a bunch of other social problems that drugs are an escape to. government is pouring all the money on "the war of drugs" which has failed for over a century. there needs to be a system built around the idea of help, not the idea of punishing and stigmatising.

I spent an early part of my childhood in Sunder Nagar, Mandi. The BBMB Colony was literal heaven. Every service at a stone's throw while being a secluded little part of the town surrounded by the forest. With a bunch of friends it was easily the best time of life.

I hope I'm not exaggerating, but I've heard that about 5-6 boys have died from Overdosing on hard drugs in the past year up to now, in the colony itself.
Such is the situation we have at our hand now.

It is genuinely heartbreaking.

The administration is actually pushing heavy and especially in many bordering districts to Punjab- funding and support is being driven. There’s also news of cops catching suppliers everyday but they are everywhere. The problem is bigger, I was told that in many rehab facilities in Hamirpur/ Kullu etc. there are real rackets - where recovering addicts are being extorted for drugs. It’s actually very evil and will likely eat our state up the way Punjab has. The problem with drugs is that the administration can only do so much- so with regular there also has to be advocacy among our local communities. It’s the most heartbreaking crisis to have happened to us Himachalis.

I have been personally attacked by addicts for money on two occasions. I’m a photographer and I step out quite often in the night too. Once it had happened in Kolkata by the Ganga and once in Nainital (Thandi Sadak). 

This issue really raises concern on public safety and welfare. I live around Naggar and I had heard cases of addicts breaking into shops in the night and stealing all the money. They’re also getting high school children hooked on to it so they end up becoming regular customers. 

Talking to someone about the police enforcement, they told me it’s a nightmare for the cops to have addicts locked up even for a night as they start screaming and could even end up taking their lives if they don’t get their supplies. 

In my opinion, the central government should have a nationwide crackdown on this racquet, have transparent documentation on personnel, organisations and quantities involved. 

Community vigilance and not getting away with this crime should have already begun yesterday.

To everyone saying this is FALSE because of the link someone used, CBC has an article up. I looked because I was wondering how a "superlab" got away with all their BS in a town of less than 1000 people. Well it was on a property that was an old grow show. CBC reports they found  explosives, large amount of ammunition, body armor and $500000 cash and enough drugs and guns seized that its street worth almost half a billion dollars.They also seized 310 kgs of meth and 30000 kg of chemicals(at other locations). The chemicals were making meth,cocaine and fentanyl.  So idk if the numbers are real but ITS REAL FOLKS! It was there. It actually was a SUPERLAB, and they got One whole person so far..
