See I don't have a problem with this in principle because this is largely how side effects are already handled in medications - we can't control for every confounding variable, and you'll often find with meds that reported side effects are the same ones you're taking the meds for.

In the interest of caution, it makes sense to be warned of the possibility based on incident reports. I have this with medications I've had and am on for UC - when you look at the possible side effects, you'll find stuff like 'diarrhoea' on there.

But what this highlights isn't a need to withhold disclosure but rather to actually teach statistics and science properly to all children at school. Can mesalasine really cause diarrhoea? Or is it simply ineffective in some people and they end up with diarrhoea because of their condition in spite of treatment? How would someone know? Maybe ten people say they got worse, but was that their trajectory anyway?

The issue here isn't that the warning is being introduced. It's the blatant *agenda* behind it. They know damn well what this maliciously communicates to people. COVID carries a cardiac risk. Vaccines aren't perfect. The kind of person still taking boosters today is the kind of person who is especially vulnerable, whether that's due to personal physical health circumstances or the nature of what they do for a living. It can't be controlled for, not really.

It happened to me. Worst pain I’ve ever had in my life and unlike a traditional heart attack it lasted hours. Went to the ER, had to do a cath lab into my heart, then stayed in the hospital for 4 days. Then was on some pretty intense meds for 3 months. THEN had to spend months working my cardio back up. It was a thoroughly rotten experience. 

Anti-vaxxers are categorically idiots but this warning is 100% legitimate. I’ve never been in the hospital in my life before this. The doctors were bewildered and their best guess was the Covid vaccine.

One of my good friends had myocarditis from the covid shot. She was a young fitness trainer in her early twenties until 2020. Today she is disabled with POTS and uses a walker. 

I talked with her about it and she said knowing what she knows now, she still encourages her friends and family to get the vaccine. She understands that the long-term risks to someone’s health from the shot is smaller than the risk from the virus itself.

There are no hidden secrets. 

As for myocarditis... Whatever risk there is, it is _always_ lower than catching covid. (which can also give you myocarditis, just at a higher rate than the vaccine)

This is what I would say in this situation:

It is true that children are at lower risk of dying from Covid than older people. However, a small minority of children do die (I believe there have been more than 1,000 since the start of the pandemic in the US -- needs factchecking but it's around there.) A vaccine would prevent that.

We are beginning to learn that Covid infections have long term side effects on our health. Increased heart disease, diabetes, Long Covid, neurological probems, etc. Studies show that vaccination reduces chances of developing those issues.

Myocarditis is far more likely from a Covid infection than the vaccine.

If we assume that Covid isn't going anywhere, and most people will likely be infected (if they haven't already), we should arm our immune systems with the best armor they can get to fight it off, including for kids.

1) Post vaccine myocarditis is not an issue in young children. It was not seen in children younger than in the teenage years.

2) Also, the highest risk is in males aged 16-24 years of age. There seems to be a risk with the way the immune system reacts to spike protein in the presence of testosterone.

3) The risk of myocarditis does not increase with increasing exposure to spike protein. It usually happens after the first or second dose.

4) The vaccines are still effective at preventing serious illness and seem to be protective against the development of MIS-C. They decreased that risk by 90%.

5) If your husband is afraid of the 3-10 micrograms of spike protein exposure from the vaccine then why isn’t he afraid of the larger dose exposure and billions of viruses in natural illness. Once infected a person can produce a hundred to a million times more spike protein than any vaccine.

6) Priming one’s immune system to recognize spike protein via vaccination is insurance for the future when the virus comes around.

7) As children get older and enter young adulthood, the risk of myocarditis from MIS-C or directly from the virus increases. Vaccination decreases those risks. COVID-19 is here to stay.

This is anecdotal, but: my son (10 months old) has a critical congenital heart defect and has had two heart surgeries. His cardiologist has recommended we get him the COVID vaccine. Policy on this varies from country to country. Here in the Netherlands, children younger than 5 years are not vaccinated against Covid. It is also not possible to arrange this yourself because the vaccination is not approved for children under 5.  

The advice of the Health Council of the Netherlands is that it is not necessary to make the covid vaccination available to all children from 5 to 11 years of age. Healthy children hardly get sick from the Omikron variant. Only if children have a serious condition are they recommended to get a shot.

The covid vaccination was primarily intended to prevent the rare inflammatory disease Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome Children (MIS-C). MIS-C occurs almost exclusively when a child receives Covid for the first time. Because most children have already had Covid once, the risk of getting MIS-C is very low. It is also known that the omikron variant is less likely to cause MIS-C than previous variants of the virus.

The Health Council does still recommend a covid vaccination for children at increased risk of becoming seriously ill from the coronavirus. A covid vaccination reduces the likelihood that they will have to be hospitalized.

My best understanding is that it’s not the spike protein itself which can cause myocarditis- it’s an overwhelming immune/inflammatory response to the spike protein. The myocarditis is seem more in adolescent males (the group with the biggest predisposition to this kind of over-active immune response)

So yes, she will probably get COVID at some point, it’s inevitable. When she gets it, do you want her to already have antibodies ready to fight it? Or, do you want the virus to potentially cause damage to her lungs in the days it takes to generate antibodies from scratch? Sure, most kids do fine, but more than a few ended up in the ICU.

In the first study, 309 teenagers in Thailand were given the Pfizer vaccine and were monitored for 7 days. 29% of the teenagers had some symptom related to the heart (anything from a high heart rate to feeling funny in the chest). Only seven people had symptoms that were measurable in the lab. One person ended up with a mild case of myocarditis, and six more people had “suspected” peri or “subclinical” (aka extremely mild IF they even have it at all) myocarditis. All the cases were resolved and back to normal within 14 days of getting the vaccine. This study had no control group and that’s a really major flaw. 


In the second study it says there is a correlation between myocarditis and the vaccine, then it says… “Nevertheless, the risks of myocarditis and pericarditis in COVID-19 vaccine recipients are still significantly lower than the health risks observed in patients with COVID-19.”


The third study you provided is a case study of 35 adults who died after getting a COVID shot. 5 of them had changes to their heart tissue that may indicate a reaction to the vaccine, but there’s no way to know that for sure. The 5 people were aged 46-75. It is not a well-designed study. 


The second link is not a study, it’s a letter to the editor regarding an article that was published in another (more reputable) journal. This is just one person’s opinion (and it’s not very well-substantiated in the letter). 


Just because something is published in a peer-reviewed journal doesn’t mean that it’s a well-planned study or that the conclusions are correct. There are many many journals that will publish whatever crap you send them, they make money by publishing.

We got the first vaccine and then my baby got Covid so we didn’t bother with the second dose due to natural immunity. But it’s been almost a year now and we’re not sure we’re going to do the other dose. 

My reasoning is: 1) the vaccine is not great at preventing infection anymore and 2) there is an unknown (but not zero) risk of serious side effects or other long-term risks from the vaccine itself and 3) Covid will keep mutating and vaccines will keep getting weaker. On the other hand, there are known (but very unlikely) risks of long term health effects after getting Covid. I’m a little bit like, why not just wait it out at this point. I guess I’m more scared of the unknown risk instead of the known but unlikely risk. 

But on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being “I kind of dgaf” and 5 being “I live and breathe this opinion”… I’m like a 1.5. Feel free to poke holes in my reasoning and convince me otherwise!

So plenty of people have posted sci based evidence, I'm just gonna throw my anecdote out. The whole family had Covid this last fall. 2 year old? Seizure from the fever. 8 week old? Hospitalized due to fever. 2 year old was half vaccinated at that point, fully vax now. As soon as my daughter was eligible at 6 months she got her first dose. We have two down. I will gladly take anything that will minimalize any chance of them getting that sick again if they catch it again.

My read of the best studies is they suggest minor side effects for the vaccine that are similar to the long term effects of having COVID, but more mild. In my opinion, this means you should honestly consider what the likelihood of your child getting COVID is. Based on my lifestyle, which is pretty typical of most Americans, I think there is a high likelihood of my kid eventually getting COVID, so I'm vaccinating him. If I lived isolated and was set on homeschooling my kid, I probably wouldn't vaccinate

I’m 35. Never even experienced a palpitation pre 2020. At the beginning of this year after being sick with covid over Xmas I had an afib attack 3 months after. The structure and  assembly of the immunogen – in both cases, the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S)  glycoprotein – are determined by a messenger RNA sequence that is  translated by endogenous ribosomes. Cardiac side effects, which for the  most part can be classified by their clinical symptoms as myo- and/or  pericarditis, can be caused by both mRNA-1273 and BNT162b2.

### Experimental Approach

As persuasive theories for the underlying pathomechanisms  have yet to be developed, this study investigated the effect of  mRNA-1273 and BNT162b2 on the function, structure, and viability of  isolated adult rat cardiomyocytes over a 72 h period.

### Key Results

In the first 24 h after application, both mRNA-1273 and  BNT162b2 caused neither functional disturbances nor morphological  abnormalities. I had severe Heart pain, angina, shortness of breath, and attacks where I woke up at 5 am unable to breathe and freezing cold, literally shivering from covid, then again from the vaccine. I am not a scientist, so forgive the possibly stupid question as I don’t think I fully understand the results. What does this mean for vaccinated people who then (unfortunately) catch Covid? Does a “breakthrough” infection mean their risk of myocarditis is 40 per million (same as unvaccinated) plus the additional 1-10 per million (as per risk for vaccinated) which would equal 41-51 per million? I had the J&amp;J vaccine and roughly 12 days later I started having moderate pressure in my chest. It would come and go but it was especially present when I would lay down. I ended up going to urgent care after four days of it not going away. They ran an EKG and ended up sending me to the ER because the results suggested pericarditis. The ER doctor ended up diagnosing me with heartburn... I know what heartburn feels like and this is definitely not that. I'm trying to limit myself to anti-inflammatory foods and discontinuing intense exercise for now too. Hoping it resolves soon.

It's unfortunate. I specifically avoided Pfizer and Moderna because I am in the risk demographic for the heart complications, but I guess it's possible to get with J&amp;J too.

I had some symptoms as well and I was twice at the hospital after the second Pfizer shot. I had sharp cheast pain and pressure at the abdomen. My blood levels and ECG were fine, so everything seemed to ok. Now I have to be boostered (mandadory in germany for health institutions, starting in March 2022). I will see if the third dosis will provoque again similar symptoms or not.  I'm kind of worried, if the third dosis will lead to a detectable inflamation, which apararently was not after the second dosis.

Where is the unvaccinated control group? All the participants had at least one covid-19 vaccine dose. Who’s to say the vaccine didn’t start the issue, then a covid-19 breakthrough infection made it worse. If those people didn’t get the vax, perhaps they wouldn’t have developed heart issues when they got the covid infection. 

This only proves that people get an increase risk of heart issues after getting the vaccine, 1 in a million. That risk jumps up to 40 in 1 million if you get the vaccine and then get the covid infection.
