Don't do anything now. 

Just pay the police some extra money and tell them to beat them so much that they really suffer a lot. 

Meanwhile focus on getting them arrested in Juvenile and try to get them imprisoned for a long time.

Heres is what I suggest based on my experiences from Interning as a law student.

Get an advocate and stay firm in your resolve at the case, no forgiveness, no out of court settlement.

If the police due to some reasons don't take action, go for a WPA( Writ Petition) for police inaction at the High Court and have it facilitate and expedite the investigation.

Try a good lawyer, there have been few cases where juveniles were tried as adults because of the severity of the crime. Plus try finding of they are serial offenders that will help you more, find and contact the other guy and keep him in your side it will help you during trials

NAL. Sorry to hear what your father went through. Unfortunately in India, going through the legal process tests one's resolve - both mentally and financially. 

The key here is to find a good lawyer - not a defence attorney but someone who specializes in prosecution. Trust me, there's a difference in the way the arguments are put forward. Like in football, a defender specializes in defence, a forward specializes in outmaneuvering the defence.

Second, it will take a LOT of time. Be prepared to see date after date go by. You'll have to start from the Juvenile Justice Board, District Court, up to the High Court (if these juvies get a half decent lawyer). Each hearing costs time and money - again emphasizing - be prepared.

Also, understand the process very clearly from your lawyer. A lawyer who's not able to explain the process clearly would only end up wasting your time and money.

1. The new law allows victim to be a party in criminal trial. Hire a lawyer and do that.


2. Go and meet the DCP/SP. Request for adult trial of juveniles in the JJB. The application needs to be moved by poiice. Help and support with a lawyer in drafting that application. Most importantly, when it comes for for hearing in JJB, be present there. Presence of victim increases chances of decision in favour of Prosecution.


3. Then be present during their bail hearing to oppose it.


4. Request the DCP/SP to assign a legally good Investigating Officer to your case. That would be the most important determinant on what is the outcome of the whole thing.


5. Ensure that their other incidents are mentioned by Police in JJB application, bail hearing and the Chargesheet.

About the boys, just know they're criminals (I'm sure they knew what they were doing and might have done it in the past too). Any punishment is not going to change their fate (future hardened criminals) so focus more on your father's situation and let law decide what's best for them. Again I feel your agony but it's not worth it. But make sure they don't get to scoot free. If possible try for longest sentence they can get.

The 16 plus ones need to be tried as adults . And the 12 plus one need to see correction homes . You need a good lawyer . This is way above reddit pay grade.

Tried as adult is super hard( next to impossible). Why so, I'll give an example.

A 16 year old kid 10 min from my vicinity killed another kid by stone due to some girl/booze. The murderer was released after 18 months or so after he turned 18.

Same thing happened to my grandfather 3 guys late at night went to his home and asked him money and after refusing they beat him up he was bleeding from head to toe, after getting the information we immediately went to him they were gone by that time they wrecked his home and stole his chain also we immediately went to the police but they questioned us all night and did nothing, my grandfather can't speak he has some throat problem so we were with him all night at the police station, we told them my grandfather has some lung problem but they still made us wait till afternoon next day , and the thieves were caught by my cousin brother who knows many people around area they didn't beat those guys because police was involved or my cousin would have beaten them up, the police locked them for one day and one of them got leave early because he had his uncle in the police , while the other got leave some days later, you know why they questioned us all night because my grandfather was caught before by police so they were thinking he must have done something, absolutely shitty behaviour by the police .

Okay so similar thing happened with someone, what the person did was he recognised the boys and found different cctv footages of them from various areas and gathered all the evidence for a bigger proof and the lawyer helped make so many cases that they won’t be free for the next 30 years. They too were under 18.

Was there any source on him being abusive before? From what I heard her parents didn't approve of their relationship and ask to break up, the two instead fled so the father cut off all relationship. The murder only came to public after a friend of her came to the house and told she isn't answering the phone to her father. So her father went to police to register a missing person case.

I recently saw a post on Kolkata’s safety and now it makes sense. Never been to Delhi, Kolkata so cannot comment. I can speak for Chennai and in general, it’s very safe - both for men and women. I live in Bengaluru now and didn’t even realise that it has more crime rate than Chennai. I felt somewhat similar levels of safety except for the road rage incidents, which are more in Bangalore.

Though generalization is not good but lot of Jaat and Gujjar population around. Delhi is surrounded by Haryana and UP. See the gender ratio of Haryana. Last decade lot of money was given to Farmers for their land around Delhi for development. Money that you have not earned spoils you.
