Jesus man, I am married to a man who is born here, has a full Chicago accent (2nd gen American with parents that are a doctor and architect), but Syrian origin.  He is in constant fear and paranoia and has been mistreated several times even in a liberal city.  It is so shameful.  I have a hard time imagining the fear even sometimes wondering if it’s bordering on paranoia, but it’s not.  He is right, because he appears to be Arab and has a beard, he has been facing Islamophobia since 2001 and it’s majorly ramped up again.

A simple thing that is heart breaking- try opening google maps and searching a way to get from Damascus into any city in Palestine. It simply gives you an error even though those places are like a 1 to 2 hour drive in normal times.
