If that planet is in the future, I feel like some people in the future are in for a bad time after that Enraged gets done with the Atrekna. No matter what, I think CONFEDINTEL may have just caused a much bigger problem than they solved. This is probably why it was mentioned before (when Sam and Harod found those time-trapped soldiers fighting eternal waves of Enraged while exploring the Afterbirth facility) that messing with chronotrons is forbidden. That is awesome and funny and terrifying though. This is really good I enjoy the battle sequences because you write them coherently for someone who is not military (directly) 
I do have relatives that serve and have served but I am precluded from service for several reasons most directly for my health issues.

I am luckier than most with my condition and I’m grateful but unless we’re actually invaded by aliens I won’t be ever allowed into the military.😆

I also think that the recap of the generals career really gave him a well rounded and emotional impact far more than just as a placeholder character.

He is far more than the placeholder of the guy that supposed to be in charge and push the button. I really adore the fact that it’s labeled do not push with a lid on it because you know someone’s gonna push it if it’s not secure.

I think it is key to view the drone problem not as solely a tanker's problem but a combined arms problem.

The current discourse with drone effectiveness in warfare have recently been viewed in context of their impact on tanks, but they affect all ground targets equally, tanks are just the one that go viral.

As such, we shouldn't restrict drone countermeasures solely to tanks since 1) tank are heavy as is and needs to focus their potential on doing tank stuff, not anti-air, and 2) there is the need of the bigger picture of all ground units that would be alongside the tank, like the infantry and artillery branches. We would need to look at the bigger picture of changing the overall force structure necessary to account for drone threats.

Based on the recent experiences, we know the following countermeasures have been taken up as attempts to counter the drone threats:

**Electronic warfare (EW)**:

Probably the largest and silent killer of drones. In one report by RUSI back in May 2023, they stated that Russian EW contributes a good part to how [Ukraine was losing up to 10,000 drones a month](https://www.unmannedairspace.info/counter-uas-systems-and-policies/ukrainian-drone-losses-at-10000-a-month-new-research-from-rusi/). The Russians have been rolling out Counter-UAS EW devices down to the platoon level that can interfere with the drone's navigation capabilities and even spoof drones in Ukrainian sensors. As such, for countering drones, we can similarly start seeing the prevlence of EW equipment on the frontlines intended to jam drone navigation to force them down or at least ensure they cannot complete their mission.

**Directed-Energy Weapon (DEW)**:

Development on lasers, microwaves, or other energy-based weapon systems have been going on for decades at this point for intended use as C-RAM. This role would allow the weapon to attack drones in a similar manner, utilizing high-energy lasers or microwave emitters to damage and disrupt drone systems. We know weapon systems like [50-kW lasers](https://www.defensenews.com/land/2022/01/13/army-readies-to-deliver-first-set-of-strykers-with-50-kilowatt-laser-weapons/) and [Microwaves](https://www.nae.fr/general-dynamics-stryker-will-counter-drone-swarms-with-a-microwave-weapon/) are being developed on Strykers and we could see similar vehicle-mounted systems to take up the anti-drone and cruise missile role like gun-based anti-aircraft vehicles like Gepard have been performing in Ukraine so far.

**Concealment**:

Not really a new "tech innovation" so to speak in the rise of drone prevalence. But as an adage once said "you can't kill what you can't see" or something like that. Or like, if you see all these drone footages, you realize that most of the kills are on targets that are quite visible through the camera of the drone. You know what aren't being killed? The ones that the drone never saw and never had the opportunity to engage with.

As such, there would likely be a bigger emphasis on concealment of troops and equipment in the front-line as access to aerial reconnaissance with those quadcopter drone become more prevalent among the infantry on the front lines.

**"Cope-Cages"**

As much as these design features have been ridiculed in the early stages of the Ukraine conflict, the design do seem to have merit as local, unit-installed anti-drone measures, with instances of these netting or cages being able to stop even FPV drones from destroying their targets. These aren't perfect, but do represent some unit-level additions that can be done by the crew a la sandbags of WWII era to try and get some extra protection or chance against drones.

The tank has been declared obsolete by the proliferation of shoulder mounted antitank weapons, the attack helicopter, the anti-tank guided missile, and now...it's the drone's turn to be heralded as the 'death of the tank'. Tanks are going to remain relevant regardless, because at the end of the day, a large gun mounted in an armored, tracked vehicle is invaluable. That the tank now faces a new sort of threat does not render the tank irrelevant. Obviously, how one deals with this new threat is important, and we're seeing that process play out in real time, but I don't think that tanks are in any danger of losing their relevance, simply because they have to deal with a new threat vector.

The answer is already out there...light weight remote detecting / sensing equipment...aka "radar".

EW works to jam specific signals (GPS or Video feeds), but can be worked around through AI target acquisition (removing the need for operating control for the last section of the flight) or home on jam (that big radiating EW source can be "seen" from forever away).

Better armor on weak spots, to include Cope-Cages, marginally improve survivability, but drones can iterate faster and still don't permit the tank to respond to a threat. 

Tanks though are already big, and are forced to maintain a larger power generation source to supply all the equipment in the tank. If a design were to be made that included a short range radar system, and tied it into a dedicated weapon (say a coaxial machine gun) then the tank would not only have better survivability against drone threats, but actually be an even more important piece to the modern battlefield as it now provides (extremely) short range Air Defense. If the radar / weapon pairing were capable enough...it may even be able to counter anti-tank rockets and even low flying aircraft (specifically thinking helicopters, but perhaps even fixed wing). 

In the end, this type of system may be better implemented on a support platform (say a Bradley with its cannon / TOWs or even the new JLTV with a dedicated anti-air package), but theoretically it could be a standard package on a tank as well.

I don't know what you mean by reorienting armor but if you're asking whether putting more armor on the top/back/sides of tanks will solve the problem then no, that won't work. Drones would just carry heavier payloads. I imagine the two immediate solutions would be drone jamming and something like trophy system modified to hit FPVs.

This is a bit far fetch, but i imagine in the future tanks will be larger than today's tank by another 10T, have more power and space to install better EW and even a small 20mm CIWS as anti-personnel and drone, soft kill like blinding the optics of a drone like Su57 DIRCM, or hard kill APS being improved upon that works against drones. 



Tanks being bigger and heavier doesn't matter so much besides crossing bridges and creating pontoon. 

Things are so accurate nowadays that size doesnt influence chance to getting hit as much. 

It will be harder to camouflage it though.

I may be completely wrong about this, but I am getting the feeling that the ones attacking the Ornislap Combined Species Dominion aren't doing it because they wanted a war, but because the Ornislap's tried to extend their territory by conquering the neighbours.  They have done that before, even claiming old Terran space.

Only this time  the neighbours decided to fight back with some  "ancient" technology they barely understand and can't use one hundred percent effectively. 

It would make for an interesting twist if the "attackers" were really just reasonable beings who had gotten tired of dealing with Ornislap aggression and had decided to apply the Humans 1% rule.
