I'll say opposite. Lalu is a rare instance in Indian politics where a corrupt politician got arrested. Most politicians in India don't get arrested for it. That I would argue has more to do with caste but actually it has more to do with hedging your bets. Many other Dalit and OBC leaders with corruption charges like Mulayam Singh and Mayawati got their cases quashed by being close to the powers that be. For whatever reason, this never happened with Lalu. That reason could be caste, his own mistakes on maneuvering these issues, him being too stubborn, I don't know about that.

Laalu was sent to prison by bhumihars and they proudly own that.. Saryu Rai and CP thakur, both bhumihar were responsible for lalu going to jail as they were the one who fought fodder scam case till its fruition.. also bhumihars were the one who broke nitish from lalu's party and helped him establish himself as mass leader of luv kush so that laalu could be defeated..

This is unfortunately the future of Bihar. When Lalu got convicted for the fodder scam the educated middle class and social media warriors were declaring his political obituary but in reality the majority of Bihar's population just viewed him with sympathy for being 'targeted' when so many other politicians were filling their pockets without reprisal.

Excellent work by Sushil Modi(Who was also behind exposing the fodder scam) but I doubt it will dent either Nitish Kumar's 'development' credentials or the Mahagatbandhan's votebank. If anything Lalu's two darling boys may get additional sympathy votes over this.

Yadav has already replied. So primary reason is clear. Ours is a caste based politics. Public as a whole dont think about progres of Bihar rather they need someone from their community to get their work done.

At first glance it look like that public is corrupt, they dont want the state to grow and come out of dark and Bihar is done forever.

But there's a hope, if people get a better choice(party) who can move away from casteism, corruption and misuse of power and think about public welfare, he/she'll get a chance. Whole Bihar is not blind with castism thats why Lalu got defeated, Congress is swept. Now we dont have good parties, though there are a handfull of good people in corrupt parties.

Youth should come in politics and clean the mess.
Even I'm contemplating to do it.

Idk about caste based politics but this definitely has something to do with brainwashing the youth too. I knew some people back in high school who arbitrarily glorified Lalu for being the finest CM the state had ever received. Even though I condemned them for digesting their stupid axiom, all they had brought to the debate was that Lalu was once the railway minister and he made the garib rath.

As someone who grew up during the absolute worst of Lalu Rabri Jungle Raj in Patna, I absolutely abhor RJD and it’s caste based politics. Lalu never had any agenda whatsoever for the development of Bihar and openly supported criminals and thugs. His children are just carrying his legacy. I can already see Bihar sliding back to the ways of the horrors of late 90s. 

As someone who experienced the worst horrors of his misrule, I just fail to understand why would anyone ever vote for him or his kin.

The answer is prevalent casteism, before Lalu Yadav many Dalit and lower caste people were not even allowed to wear slippers or shoe in front of upper caste and they were literally treated like animals, Lalu Yadav changed this situation thats why a lot of people treat him like God, i am neither a Bihari nor a Yadav, but i spend some year in Bihar and i listen this from a lot of people but mainstream media will not tell you this reality of Bihar before rise of Lalu yadav

Saying that bihar is behind because of corruption,  Because we where the most looted and destroyed state for the longest period in British raz if you see history bihari where the most rebellious as well against oppression so British never constructed any major office or business here exception is patna.  Getting money from center,  so our MLA always fill there pocket first,  Everyone wants to secure there future first. Said that now bihar never say any majority government so without stability no government can function properly,  Lalu is admired because he uplifted and gave courage to stand against upper cast.
