AFCAT is specifically for Airforce, which you already knew. One of the best way to get into defense(army and navy) is via Technical Graduate Entry (TGE) where you won't be required to give any written exam and go straight for the 5 day SSB interview. But this requires you to have an engineering degree with a minimum of 7.0 CGPA(it changes each time with different stream as well). 

Also the CDS exams by UPSC is one of the best way to enter defense which happens twice a year. After clearing this exam you'll be attending the 5 days SSB interview.

Whatever exam you're applying for, it'll clearly say in the notification whether it is for short service commission or for permanent commission .

And after serving for 10 to 11 years(in short service), if you're smart, you won't be having any trouble after your service.

They get a job depending on the background they have done in their units. Like someone who has an experience in Signals will get a job in such a company. It's worthy only if the guy has an experience in units like logistics, workshops, anything to do with electronics etc. which overlap with the civilian world. If it's a pure fighting arm like Infantry/Armored/Artillery/Engineers they can only continue to stay in the Army, AFAIK nowadays they don't post SSC offrs in such arms but not sure. In the fighting arms the prospect of promotions is high and they can stay until 20 years even if they are got in SSC.

My father was in Ordnance Factory but he retired in the early 2000's, If possible go that route as you get a decent job without any major tensions. 

I'm not sure whats the route to get into it is nowadays.

They get re-employed in both private and govt sector jobs....even state govt gives them quota...army itself has jobs for ex-servicemen in HVF, ECHS, airport and other army related organisations. SSC does not give you pension but offers other benefits like settlement money, CSD canteen facility, free treatment in echs and concession treatment in empanelled hospitals via echs.

I think that the biggest benefit for China to keep the Himalayan conflict alive except for good old nationalism is to financially ruin India like Soviet.

China can afford to have troops running up and down on their side without much financial burden. India must spend much more too keep up and drains their funds. Politically the conflict puts pressure on bigger military spending in India which will do more damage than the actual conflict with a hundred deaths and a few sq km of frozen rock changing hands.

In [CPI we rank 108](https://theprint.in/economy/you-thought-inflations-high-in-india-data-shows-at-least-100-countries-doing-worse/1020191/) (top rank for highest inflation), noone have done one for wholesale prices and I am lazy but a rough look at [this table](https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/producer-prices-change) puts Indian at more or less middle position.

Indian military spending is something of a disaster for sure, with many horror stories (Russian carrier comes to mind), failed domestic attempts (not sure Tejas is still relevant, certainly not efficient). Probably a mix of corruption and ego that got them there.

India should have kept spending low, focused on buying off the shelf, and pump the rest of the money into developing their economy for export, especially high end tech. Like China, they could then have naturally grown the ability to make their own designs, or just tailor/co-develop foreign offers with local production as they did with the Su-30 and the Brahmos.

Not to mention there is a whole niche of untapped military potential in the drone space that Turkey of all countries now leads. Even India has the know how to get into it, and they failed at even that. It shows a lack of vision (like most countries but still).

By my count China is about to become the world's sole superpower in mere months, so it's game over anyway.

I hear your talks about bribes OP but I assure you bribes are taken and given everywhere and hardwork is not a necessary given. No allegations get proven but who do you think lobbies defense deals like Bofors and AugustaWestland? Sure our politicians push some of it, infact most of it... but there are some characters of shade everywhere... or do you think that in an army of 10 lakh picked up from the very people of India from where police force gets picked, the army is entirely beyond corruption but the cops are all corrupt. The difference is that most cops can be offered bribes and even be compelled to take it. Most armed forces people wouldn't be offered bribes in their lifetime. Offer it to the men everyday. Offers are a major point... have you ever heard of a police officer getting "honey trapped:?

However, the core strucure of police is way rotten than the armed forces so there is that merit but I doubt it will stay that way if you do a merger of sorts.

That being said, it is impractical as you can't run for approval to Delhi and expect 1 central minister to police every damn state and still be able to come with varied solutions for varied crime issues. 

Also, army solves a different issue, focuses on a far different problem than the cops and the solutions to the issues for both are different. Armed Forces may have to kill a good man who is on the other side and the police sometimes have to temper themselves (because laws and "justice") even if it is a very bad man who is against them. Cops will need all sorts of evidence, witnesses and whatnot.... the army just needs to say "he crossed the border and didn't surrender when we asked and that will be the end of most discussions.

TL:DR

1. Corruption as a metric is not equivalent in this scenario as cops have more offers for small sums that fatten them up as compared to Army that has fewer offers with larger sums. 

2. The issues are different and the focus is different. Armed Forces objective is to shoot their "enemy". Cops work to "arrest" their adversaries and "investigate". 

3. The burden on the new department will be too much and unpalatable specially in our country.

4. The issues are too varied from state to state as well and needs local solutions.

5. Lethargic chain of command going back to Delhi.

6. The states... all of them... will go berserk. That is 1 more ministry post that will become much smaller and limited and you can't have that or politicians get mad.... and revolt against party.

7. Wastes the time of army too and they may become more ill-fit in managing the issues at the border.

No, creating a bigger bureaucracy isn't the solution to this mess. The MoD focuses on external defense and are brought in only in case of emergencies, and we should set the bar for Army involvement in internal law and order issues as high as possible.
