No. I literally walked all by myself after dark a few years ago, saging the entire national mall. No one gave me any problems or came anywhere near me and my car was parked north of the mall on the street and i couldnt remember where so wandered a couple extra blocks. Did not have an issue. Id lived in dc many years though and still have family there. It is ok. I mean, it’s dc. Very easy to find the real serial killers. Thats why i was saging the natl mall 😉 and im a 5’3” white lady 🤓

I’ve never lived in DC but I live within a day’s drive and I’ve been a visitor on dozens of occasions for personal and business trips. I’ve stayed in multiple locations and I’ve spent weeks at a time in the city. Personally, I’ve never been impressed with our capital and I’ve never felt like it was nice or safe. That’s not a political statement, this is going back over a 20 year period. There are parts of the area you should absolutely avoid and there are areas that are very nice. Like any urban city, walk one street over and it’s like you’re in a different town. So, does DC need “cleaning up”, in my opinion no more than any other city. Is it getting worse, no. Are the actions of the administration warranted, absolutely not. But let’s not pretend it’s some sort of super safe liberal utopia, because it ain’t that either.

I’m sure things aren’t perfect right now, but data shows it was much worse during Trump’s first term. This year has actually seen significant improvement, so it’s interesting to see him focus on an issue that wasn’t even on his radar back then especially while the rest of the country feels like it’s going to hell in a handbasket. It comes across as a distraction from the broader chaos happening in the U.S. right now. 

My opinion is Trump sees himself as a King, and when people come to visit his "Kingdom" they come through DC and he wants world leaders to see it as clean, beautiful place to represent the rest of America. He's been to other parts of the world and is impressed by how clean and presentable other world capitals are, so he doesn't want to be seen as King of a shit hold country.

depends what you consider out of control. Like half my friend group lives in DC and most of them have had an attempted robbery, or at least the threat of a robbery against them in the past few years. 

Some of its not even crime, its just a culture people acting in unacceptable ways. For example, one women i know was on a train, a few teenagers got on the train went up to her, started talking about how they wanted her airpods and saying they should take them and then eventually chickened out and got off. That was terrifying for her, but no crime was committed. 

Same thing happens in NYC, guy pulled a knife on my freind, he talked the guy down, guy got off teh car zero consequences. Same thing doesn't happen in japan and Singapore. 

US cities have decided to accept this behavior other nations would just put cameras everywhere and jail anyone who did that, the best outcome is probably somewhere in the middle.

First of all, so we don't forget: Trump raped and likely trafficked a number of teenage girls through his pageants and associated modeling agencies with his rich buddies. Wouldn't surprise me if MPD has been cooking the statistics for 10+ years. Policies like no cash bail puts the criminals back into the communities they terrorize. That combined with a backed up judicial system, prosecutors dropping cases until said criminals kill or maim citizens, judges giving lighter sentences, create what we have today. MPD is at the bottom of that totem pole and gets all the blame from the top so they fix the numbers to make themselves look better. The look i see on a dc cops face when he or she's says they've arrested the same person 5-6 times in the last 12 months, is one of exhaustion with the accompanying IDGAF attitude.  All I can say is register a firearm to protect yourself, family, and home because they're not coming to save you and the criminals will be back out on the street faster than a trip to the DMV.

Michael Pulliam was accused of downgrading incidents in the 3rd district. This might be true – he had plenty of reason to make numbers lower – but his accusers were the police union, which is likely be retaliating for Pulliam's recent EEO complaint against them.

Whatever has actually happened here, crime rates have declined in nearly every American city in the past few years, due in large part to the fact they had hit recent highs during the pandemic and there has been a return to the pre-2020 norm. DC is no exception. A single district faking some of its felony numbers does not change that fact, only the relative amount of decline.

My best friends building was broken into by a gang with power tool. They stole everything that wasn’t tied down in the hallway, including expensive bikes. The police refused to call it a burglary because forced entry wasn’t made into an apartment even though they wanted to. Cop said his hands were tied due to DC policy. Was just listed as trespassing, it’s a sad joke. They had to buy a whole new expensive front door and new locks.

Don't forget, he had the national guard out to forcefully remove black lives matter protesters to take a picture with a Bible in front of a church who wasn't notified and was actually trying to provide aid to the protesters.

It was a stunt he used, to get the military to stop lawful protests.
