As someone who come form a partitioned 
country it’s a bitter reality but Western Ukraine will be better off with the freedom of being able have there own national identity and the choice to become part of EU and develop into a first world nation 

The East of Ukraine and Crimea is predominantly Russian for reasons you can’t force these people to be something different this goes both ways time needs to pass before a recognition and acceptance of both side this is what leads to peace and ultimately a unification if both sides choose in the future

Just something very important to be considered:
This war will end when:
- Russia is defeated 
- Ukraine is defeated 
- Ukraine accepts Russia's demands


There's no other options. Because Russia is the aggressor. And thus the war only ends when the aggressor stops.
The aggressor only stops when they get what they wanted, they lose or it's to costly to keep on attacking.




Russia has proven over the past 3 years that being removed from "the western" sphere is not enough of a cost. And not even their own population is a cost big enough to stop.


So given all that. If Ukraine is not willing to concede. That means this was drops to only 2 ways it can end:
- Russia is defeated 
- Ukraine is defeated 


And now the final question becomes, how can someone defeat Russia?
This is the question because I assume most people here want Ukraine to not lose. Hence, the only other option is option 1
