If Hamas released all the hostages, disarmed, accepted unconditional surrender, and left for another Arab country, the war would end, as nobody, including the USA, would allow Israel to continue the war. So why is Hamas continuing? The only reason is to see as many Palestinians killed as possible to advance their terrorist agenda, where Palestinians are simply pawns whose lives don’t matter.

It sucks, but it is what it is.  This is what you get when two groups fight a territorial war while being bolstered by religious extremism / dogmatism.  If they were on equal footing in terms of power they would have completely killed each other off a long time ago, and both sides would have deserved their annihilation.  As it stands, there is a power imbalance and that's why Israel appears to be the bad guy - but let's be real, the ONLY reason they are the bad guy is because they have more power. There is no doubt in my mind that Israel's goal is the complete depopulation of Gaza, to make room for settlers.  This is a stated goal of the minority, but crucial, bloc that keeps Netanyahu in the majority.  The US will not be any restraint.

I won't try to defend all of Israel's actions; I see Israel as (just barely) the lesser of two evils when compared to Hamas and radical Islamist Palestinians.

That said, Israel is not committing genocide, IMHO.

Genocide is an attempt to *completely remove* an ethnic group, through extermination and/or expulsion.

Israel could have easily exterminated a million Palestinians in Gaza by now, yet they have killed maybe 60,000, or just over 1% of the Palestinian population of the occupied territories.

There are more Palestinians living in the West Bank than Gaza, yet there has been no large-scale military invasion there. Seems like a missed opportunity, if the goal is extermination of Palestinians.

Compare that 1% to the 70% of the Tutsi population that was killed in Rwanda, or 60% of the Jewish population of Europe being lost during the Holocaust. Joseph Stalin's 1932-1933 genocide in Ukraine left between 2 and 5 million dead. This is what genocide looks like.  
  
Using a word hyperbolically robs it of its meaning. War crimes and excessive force (both of which are happening in Gaza) can still be bad without being a "genocide".

At the end of the day, Israel is going to do what they want, and the US (any party, any vetted politician, ie, all of them that you know about) are going to support them completely.  Israel doesn't believe in universal human rights as a matter of basic philosophy.  So, there is no foundational moral objections for them in committing genocide.  The only concern for them is maintaining control of the narrative, which isn't too hard considering that their literal relatives own the press.  So, nothing is going to stop Israel, and the US will use the full force of it's military capacity to help them and protect them.

Wasn't the anti Israel side calling for an invasion a long time ago?  The issue is bombing from afar right?  They should have gone in with soldiers, door to door, and completely defang the enemy, that was the argument as I understand it from the left, what they would have done if they were in charge of Israel after Oct 7.  It would cause way more Israeli deaths but it would also reduce civilian/innocent death as well as have a higher chance of actually removing terrorists.  Then, destroy the whole leadership, and create a provisional pro-Israel gov't.

As far as Gaza and the West Bank, maybe Israel does have enough and will deal with its neighbors to remove the populace and take over greater Israel, like they probably wanted to originally, who knows.  Nobody could do anything about it so not sure why they haven't done this, and the fact they have put up with this for 70 years now and it never gets better, in fact it gets worse while population of those two location rises, it's conundrum.

Here’s the thing: Palestine asked for this.

For 75 years Palestine has been the aggressor, and stated very explicitly their goal isn’t two state - but destruction of the Israeli state.

They have rejected a half dozen peace proposals and initiated 7 wars. There is zero evidence of good faith negotiation from them.

Palestine has told Israel “*it’s you or us. no compromise*” and is finally seeing the consequence of forcing Israel to make that choice after trying every other option.

Israel tried land for peace - they gave back the Sinai to Egypt. They made peace with Jordan, UAE, and many others.

They tried offering the 67 lines in Oslo. They tried unilaterally giving them autonomy in the Gaza pullout and did an a/b test of self rule vs occupation. They tried ignoring provocation with the border fences and iron dome, and that longer term peace / investment in West Bank would prove positive.

October 7th changed the equation; Israel couldn’t simply ignore.

The fact that Palestine is the technologically inferior and more impoverished nation is blinding good natured liberals to a very basic reality: they are the primary “bad” entity and obstacle to peace.

Palestinian nationalism is mostly a concept invented in the 60’s as anti-Zionism instead of an actual historic nationalism. I don’t think Palestinian nationalism is or should be the primary goal.

The primary goal should be quality of life and path forward for those people. The most feasible solution is partial territorial concession of Gaza and West Bank to Egypt and Jordan, respectively, and investment.

Palestine shows zero evidence of producing stable leadership.

The UN, as evidenced by this its inaction in southern Lebanon, is clearly an incapable arbiter.

If none of that works I really don’t blame Israel if they opt for just arial strikes on any suspected militant sites until none remain.

I think the Israeli point of view is that Palestine = Hamas, or that it will always produce similar groups. I hate what they are doing and find it morally repulsive, but I honestly don't think they are wrong in their assessment. They seem to be "solving" this problem by trying to eliminate Palestine altogether. It's what happens when you problem solve as a sociopath.

Aside from the obvious moral problems with their approach, it seems to me that without literally killing huge numbers of Palestinians, vastly more than they already are, they will merely relocate the resentment which produces terror groups which threaten Israel's safety. Even if they wiped out Palestine to a man, that resentment might find a home in neighboring Arab countries, and the cycle continues. 

This situation is fucked.
