I’m old enough to remember when cops were in favor of gun control because they were against gun violence and afraid they’d be the victims of it. After watching the press conference, I believe I heard that the officers were furthering an investigation started yesterday into a “domestic” issue? I may be way wrong but I’m getting the vibe of investigating a terror threat that proved to be credible. Perhaps the responding officers instead experienced the terror intended for a wider audience.

Or, as another commenter mentioned, as one speaker noted that they were officers responding in York, but did not confirm they were York police officers. Leading me to wonder if they were ICE agents, especially as the Consulate of Mexico in Philly earlier instructed all Mexican citizens in the area to cooperate with law enforcement.

I wish this didn’t have to be confusing for the time being. I live in Georgia, but know that I’m sending love up north.

I live very close to this (thankfully different school district than the one that was on lock down) and now the DOJ knows who we are. This is the second police shooting in York this year, the other took place in a hospital. Apparently York is on the DHS list of sanctuary cities. We have several friends, classmates, neighbors who are immigrants. I'm nervous for what comes next. We dont want the feds or ICE here.

‘Rural’ is probably a more widely applied term in Australia because the country has so few major cities. It kind of goes metro/city -&gt; regional -&gt; rural -&gt; remote. I think this is just a targeted headline trying to give perspective to a specific audience. For an Aussie looking at PA, Philly/Pittsburgh would be major cities, Reading and Allentown would be regional cities or towns, and I guess you could argue that York is rural. I tend to disagree but I see the point given the context.

Uhhhh - seems worth noting that the other shooting they mention in the article (at the hospital) was officer on officer. The person who came in with the zip ties &amp; a gun did NOT kill the officer. Poor police training did. 

Also that hospital was fairly new &amp; didn’t have any security staff. Dumb as hell. York hospital has you go through metal detectors, bag searches, &amp; has tons of security. Why UPMC thought to forgo a similar set up is beyond me.
