I diagnose and treat diseases. So I meet Canadians everyday on my work. Those Canadians I meet in person are some of the sweetest people I ever met. It all started post 2022. The volume and rate and indiscriminate nature of Indian immigration into Canada, Australia and the UK post-COVID lockdowns became well known throughout the Anglosphere as of 2023.

It began to surface here in the U.S. as well since Christmas (2024) because of Elon and Vivek’s tweets about H1B visas.

I look at it like this, I don’t go into a situation expecting to be profiled and treated badly because I am not Canadian. I have civic sense and I treat all people with respect and dignity. It’s really that simple, but if you are always looking for someone to do something then eventually you will find that person. There are racist people all over the world, even in our own community. The ones that talk and gossip about us at festivals, at weddings, birthday parties, etc. we someone don’t pay much attention to that but focus on what others think about us. Focus on yourself, treat people with kindness and keep moving on your life.

I’m an Indian in Ottawa, and I feel like those Instagram accounts you mention, do this on purpose to boost engagement of their own content. Like I’ve not even seen a modicum of moderation being done. Sometimes feels like the people behind those accounts feel the same way as the racists.

Ontario Storm Watch is one example of a well-moderated account. Though i mainly follow them on facebook, I’ve seen them actively remove racist comments and do a pretty good job at moderating the comments. Unfortunately such accounts are an exception rather than the norm

It’s the same for all communities man. I remember during and even before Covid I was constantly fed negative videos and shorts on the Chinese community. I am Indian in US and let me tell you how much I am hating the new crowd from Haryana and punjab. These guys are driving like crazy, with Haryana and Punjab stickers plastered all over their cars. Loud music playing in the cars, rowdy behavior in the theaters, creepy behavior in the clubs. 

I know what the reason is, when people immigrated back in 90s and 2000s, they worked long hard hours for shit pay at 7/11s, gas stations, restaurants etc. Saving every penny, sending it back to the familes etc. Work was tough and money was even tougher to make. 

Nowdays the kids who immigrate through Dunky or on student visas get cars on loans, sign up for uber, doorfash etc and work long hours to make good money. They also don't have to worry about sending money back home because rich dad is handling everything. (I am not talking about most of the people but just the rowdy crowd)

They bring their rash lawless mentality from India and do the same here, where as when I came we were taught to follow the rules to the T. We integrated to the society, got good jobs and participate in American culture while keeping our culture alive but these new kids don't give a fuck.

Just alone in Bay Area there have been so many fights between Haryana Jaats and Punjabi Jatt boys. Then the whole issue of trying to aggressively pursue girls so they could get married and get GC.

See this problem has an issue from both ways and one cannot ignore it. 

India has a hygiene and cleanliness issue in cities. Rural India is mostly cleaner than urban India. Even people in India are pissed with some places. One of the way to overcome this is surely by working ground up there is no excuse for that. However if you go urbalhell subreddit you see how ugly some of South Asia countryside and small towns are. India needs to plan it's cities better and ensure cleanliness, the countryside India seems to be fine. 

Now coming to the other side. I use Instagram and reddit and maybe it's the algorithm I don't get much hate. But I met an Columbian girl once in Germany and she showed me in her tik tok account and God I was surprised. Some of the video are just artificially made..like there was one indian guy who was rubbing some food in his underarm and then cooking them and saying they are special India dish. No way on earth thats true it's clearly seen he was paid to do that. I also saw some white YouTubers going to the filthiest Indian street shop eating there and just puking. They were so filthy that even a below average Indian won't go there. 

I did a bit of research and came to know that these are called poverty porn to show how bad India and South Asian countries are. These YouTubers have been to Cambodia, Philippines, Laos etc but I guess Indian content explodes much faster hence now all these poverty porn YouTubers are coming to India.  It's cheap to travel in India and the return is pretty good. Since Indians are not in TikTok it has became a good platform to spread hate.

There has always been hate towards one community or another in Canada, for the most part of Canadian history. They talk about assimilation but how many first gen immigrants who have come there have actually assimilated well, take a walk down any of the neighborhoods with immigrants from China, Africa, Korea etc and you'll see not much. If u go to Northly Vancouver, or Brampton or another of their profiles and check the about section. It clearly shows those profiles are operated from Pakistan. And I honestly think, it is done by the western governments with the help of Pakistanis. These governments are not who they are. Might improve at the official level, but there is going to be a lot of pushback from people in Canada.  Polling shows only 25% of people in Canada have a positive opinion of India.  There's the Canadian ultra-nationalists and Khalistanis who keep crying bloody murder, and then there are the Canadian anti-immigration people and Canadian racists who conflate good India-Canada relations with higher immigration.

Mark Carney seems like he acted under the pressure of other G7 members. He still comes from the same party as Trudeau and similar team of key advisors around him. The relations between India and Canada will surely improve after the G7 meeting. A very welcoming step from Canadian government came out recently where they said Khalistan issue is a security threat. As has been reiterated multiple times, both parties have an irreconcilable position with regards to each other. 

The Government of India has no love lost for secessionist/separatist movements. Historically, these movements have had a tendency of turning violent, causing civil unrest and violence in India. For eg - Kashmir militancy, Khalistani movement in Punjab, Naga movement in the northeast. The Indian government treats these as very serious threats to national security and will never compromise on this matter. They will always seek to ruthlessly eliminate individuals designated as terrorists.

The Canadian Government is indignant that their own citizens are being assassinated on their own soil. They are appalled that diplomatic measures were not utilized in this matter. Nothing is as big a slap in the face as a foreign power murdering your own citizens with impunity. This is notwithstanding the fact that the dispensation depends upon pro khalistani MPs to stay in power. 

Both parties have opposing aims and lack the necessary economic and military leverage to force the opposite party into doing their bidding. They don't have significant trade and economic ties with each other. What India gets from Canada, it can easily get elsewhere and vice versa. 

With Trump being elected, I believe that India has a slight edge here. Even if he does not explicitly support India, he has damaged American relations with Canada. Without the support of their southern neighbours, there are literally no significant consequences that Canada can inflict upon India. 

Pragmatically speaking, R&amp;AW should use this opportunity to increase their presence in Canada. They can create sleeper cells (thousands of Indians emigrate to Canada each year) for intelligence gathering and direct operations and establish links to Indo-Canadian organized crime gangs in Ontario and British Columbia to use as proxies . Use bots to run social media smear campaigns and deepfakes to damage the Khalistani image and disguise direct action operations as Khalistani infighting. This is probably the best time for them to act to destabilize the movement.

Seems very unlikely. The Indian dispensation is unlikely to want to thaw relations until Canada allegedly stops harbouring individuals designated as terrorists by India. Similarly, Canada is also indignant about alleged Indian backed hits on its citizens. Both parties have a somewhat irreconcilable position.

Also, India and Canada are not geopolitically important to each other. Neither nation has significant leverage to compel the other party into doing their bidding. In fact, Canada has bigger issues on its plate with an increasingly hostile US dispensation beyond the border. 

Pragmatically speaking, India might even take this opportunity to get rid of a few other "undesirable elements" in Canada as the Trump government is much more amenable to them as compared to the Democrats.

Canada's political landscape is too preoccupied at the moment. I don't foresee any major movement in the geopolitics of these 2 nations until the conclusion of Canada's elections this year. 

Mark Carney has his hands full dealing with Trump, the Economy, and the elections. Only after the conclusion of these elections and after the formation of a new govt, the PM would be in a meaningful position to do anything to patch things up/move fwd.

Maybe a bit of a reset but nothing beyond it. Australia made effort because trade is booming and they are in Indo-pacific as well. India and Canada have no skin in the game, even beyond lackluster trade ties there is no geopolitical advantage in it either as Canada doesn't bring anything to the table and India isn't really a market beyond commodities for the other side.

I may be among the few people who still remember the massive diplomatic row that Canada had with Saudi Arabia a few years ago over the murder of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi on foreign soil.

Ultimately, nothing much came of that row and Canada's economic and defense ties with Saudi Arabia are unchanged. In fact Canada still exports weapons and ammunition to Saudi Arabia, some of which have been used in their decade-long war in Yemen.

Compared to the Khashoggi case, the alleged assassination of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil by Indian agents will be more difficult to stomach, but with the post-Trump change in priorities and Trudeau's own ego/reputation no longer in the picture, I can see Mark Carney having an interest in reviving ties with India in the near future. After all, if he's going to spend the next 4 years in a trade war with the world's largest economy, he'll have to cast a wide net to find alternatives. Europe alone won't do.

But I expect that genuine attempts at a diplomatic "reset" will have to wait until the general elections in Canada later this year. Carney is only an interim PM right now and he probably won't risk his re-election over this.

As long as India perceives that Khalistani extremists are given safe haven in Canada, no Indian government would consider patching up relations with Canada.

I don't think it will change much. Maybe the country will reset to maintain protocol relations, especially since Canada has a large Indian diaspora, India is an important country in several sectors that would be better to have as a partner than an enemy. 

And Canada needs to diversify its trading partners. Even more so now in a more divided world. Ignoring countries from the Global South is foolish.

As a Canadian, I don’t really care about India, sorry. I doubt most Canadians think about India at all.

We’ve got bigger problems and besides our diaspora, our relations with India are irrelevant. We hardly trade and we have no geopolitical ties whatsoever. India has got its hands full with Pakistan, China, a newly belligerent Bangladesh and Burma melting down, so they should probably focus on their own backyard.. Canada has much bigger fish to fry at the moment with Trump.

I would like to see reduced immigration from Punjab though.

Canadians ought to be wise enough not to downplay the plane bombing...

There have been more than Indian assassinations on Canadian soil against foreign dissidents since Kashoggi &amp; some.  Compared to the other assassinations, Nijjar had also been surveilled by Canada's own RCMP (having forgot their camera when asked to reveal their investigation into why he was training kids with AK47s in a forest above Vancouver) and Canada  had also been ground zero for planning the Air India bombing which also caught two innocent Japanese baggage handlers.

The UK actually assisted India in flushing out the terrorists from India - this 5-eyes confirmation doesn't mean Canada wasn't negligent for the last 5 decades.  

The perps involved in the killing are in custody, local citizens that were easy to pay. Canada is calling out one country because Trudeau can't lose his separatist supporters to Jagmeet.

See the sequence of events - Canada's had ample room to make different decisions many, many times.

I think it wasn't Trudeau per se but his fellow K-stani MPs and such pressure groups. If they persist Carney won't help either. However given Trump's stance on extremism Canada can grow a spine.

Feels like India was the problem, not Trudeau. Maybe don’t assassinate Canadian citizens.

India can simply wait out till Canadian economy implodes. Then they will have no choice but to accept it.


India doesn't get much benefit trading with Canada anyways. 

It’s impossible to tell if he’s gone. I mean right now the country is being run by his close mate that no one elected. And he’s not calling any elections. Sounds super democratic.
