I'm not sure why we have not been spending the last year or two hacking "whoever" this might be out of existence. Their banking systems, their utilities and traffic infrastructure, their electricity grid, their train systems, their television and radio stations.. all of it, bar a very select few things like hospitals. The  turn around and say "sure it couldn't have been us, we're all the way over here!"

Just trying to imagine the chaos after transportation systems/companies switch over to AI entirely to reduce the need for human staff. 


Some dude living in a dinky apartment somewhere in Capital City will hack into the system to control the AI, and the poor remaining human staff around will have zero power over it.


The sad part is this is slowly becoming reality. If someone can do this with an airport now, imagine in future. Seeing a lot of cyber security employees being laid off recently, so, I mean...

From a tech perspective why is a checkin system that's used by desk staff and airlines at airports exposed to the Internet ?

At a minimum you'd limit the access to European IP blocks, and filter through a DDoS service.

Seems mad that mission critical software isnt locked down to a narrower set of user IP blocks.

I have a quick one:  I travel regularly across Europe.  Sometimes security makes me take off my wrist watch (standard steel watch, non-smart), other times I can just wear it.  Happened this week even.  In Brussels Airport I needed to take it off (which I don't like, because it's not a cheap watch) and in Berlin it was fine to keep wearing it. 

What gives?  Is it the security guy that decides or is there a protocol?
