Honestly, I just pity the poor Iranians. Nuclear non proliferation no longer makes sense. The greatest stabilizer to international relations is wmds. We should be criticizing Iran for a lot, such as human rights abuses, sponsoring terrorism, supporting Ukraine war off aggression etc. The list is long. I support sanctioning them for all sorts of reasons, but not for wanting to be a country. 

Any country who wants to be a country, who's conventional military is not the best in the world, and who has even one adversary, needs wmds. I want canada to have a chemical weapons program. Let's sanction them for an actual good reason, on an issue that they may budge on.

Besides, after 18th Oct, Resolution 2231 expires so only western unilateral sanctions remain, not UN law. Too bad, China and Russia will continue to do business with Iran as usual.

Good. Israel being the only nuclear power in the middle east is extremely scary. All they really know how to do is spread death and destruction. I moved to Lebanon from the US being an Israel defender. That was in 2005. Now I've seen firsthand the violence. Maybe this helps

Saudi signing paper agreements with Pakistan doesn’t change a-lot honestly. Riyadh’s biggest trade partners are India, China, the US, and the EU ..not Pakistan. 

The Kingdom won’t jeopardize tens of billions in energy, investment, and diaspora remittances just to back a country whose economy is literally on life support.

Imo: This move by SA came after Israel bombed Qatar and faced absolutely no consequences.  

If anything, this pact gives Saudi some leverage and Pakistan some PR at home, but in an actual conflict SA’s first move will be to stay neutral..because economic survival outweighs symbolic alliances.

Of course it has nothing to do with India. The reason is so obvious. The US is no longer reliable if SA is attacked by Israel. So SA is looking for some hedge. It chose PK because PK is traditionally very close to SA, has nuclear weapons, and is also very close to China. SA cannot go to China directly so this is the best US-acceptable way to hedge the risk.

Can anyone explain who the common enemy is that they both are concerned about? India and Israel are the only ones that come to mind but I wasn’t aware that SA and India were adversaries, and neither state would/should face the U.S. if they were to fight Israel. The truth is the Saudis are not scared of Israel. They are scared of Iran. And if they want access to Pakistani nukes it is because they might no longer bet on the US to be able to stop Iran from having nukes. Which is terrible news to not just the middle east, but the entire world.

Pakistan which is easily bullied by India and is getting defeats from the Pakistan Taliban they likely helped prop up. China could also wipe them out. Signing a defense pact with them seems silly. They are also allies with Iran which is Saudi Arabia's main foe.

Add to that that Saudi Arabia has a dysfunctional terrible army they don't know how to use as it's extremely badly run and split into sectors.

There already a unwritten agreement that Pakistan would provide the Saudis nukes the moment Iran went nuclear, kind of ironic as India and the Gulf st states relations grow, the gulf states reached out to the Taliban post-its withdrawl from Afghanistan (while Afghanistan and Pakistan tensions has ratcheted up notches and border clashes happen), likewise Pakistan refused to send troops (much like Egypt) to join the war in Yemen against the Houthis and their allies. For Saudi for example, the agreement includes all military means, including nuclear weapons. This makes Israel think carefully if it decides to attack another country in the region, especially the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, In addition, this will make India think carefully before attacking Pakistan, like the failed attack last May. This means declaring war on Saudi Arabia, and will have dire economic and military consequences for India.
