If the Americans keep holding up trade relations over non-trade issues like defence deals and oil imports, I don't see why Indian negotiators should keep anything off the table.

Trump has kept room for carve-outs in all his new economic policies for countries or even individual companies who have made deals with him. The key is in knowing how to please him and the ones who advise him, and that is where India has failed spectacularly. For example, Trump had actually signalled support for H1B visas when he assumed office 6 months ago because of Elon Musk's influence.

This is nothing new, and probably has little/nothing to do with the H1B visa. India does this with many trades deals, especially with rich/western countries with the most recent example being the UK.

They would bat for Indians who live in America and corporations like WITCH over Indians in India. Outsourcing and the H1B program has sucked away prestige, talent, and investment in other engineering fields in India like mechanical and electrical. India needs to invest in R&amp;D and students that are not in computer science. Material science is crucial for semiconductors, batteries, aerospace, and defense.

Beyond tariffs and the H1B issue, the trouble holding trade talks and making deals with Trump on any issue is that he can always override any agreements on a whim next week or next month. What new tariffs or trade barriers will he consider next?

Is the job market for engineers in India that bad or is this moreso due to remittances. To me it feels like India pushes a strong movement of people with trade deals etc. they did the same with the UK. I’m curious to know if this is moreso due to remittances, poor job market at home and oversupply of graduates, growing sizeable Indian demographics abroad hoping to grow those nations to be more supportive of India.

I don’t know, I just don’t understand it be curious to get other options on this. I know the people want a better life and that makes sense. It’s the Indian government push that confuses me as wouldn’t this reduce potential tax revenue.

Why does everyone act like the EU is supposed to be India’s HR manager? Yes, India hasn’t ratified all ILO conventions. Neither has the US. Neither has China. The EU needs to care primarily on EU members and citizens, no more the entire planet because the planet has turned a cold shoulder to all of our initiatives. When we care for workers in India, those workers accuse us of trampling their culture and wanting to dominate them. The same is happening all over Africa, where people think of Chinese imperialism and benevolent and of EU principles as simply hypocritical. So, why do we keep on doing this? They are just trapping us in our own ideals, so we will do self-harm.

They are in discussion on trade deal, they have also agreed to buy US weapons. Trump has not budget yet lets see. I am still wondering what happened go China partnership

India is signaling it will accept 15% additional tariff with no retaliation. Keep in mind Trumps tariffs are additional.  Many goods already had 30% tariff. Now its gone up to 80% and India is saying it will accept 45 without retaliation.

But India doesn't export that many goods anyway. Indias bigger export is software services which Trump just hit today with the H1B order.  May be signaling acceptance of 15% additional on goods to avoid the H1 order
