Most of the times Hanoi is not heavily affected by typhoons. Intermittent heavy rain and that's all.

At this moment the typhoon is still far out so it's hard to say for sure. Your flight might be delayed, it might rain and Hanoi might get a little flooded, your tour might be delayed or even cancelled. But it should be pretty safe in Hanoi.

You can look up typhoon Yagi last year. It was like the strongest typhoon to hit Hanoi in decades, and it wasn't that bad.

Edit to add: Unlike Yagi, typhoon Bualoi is projected not to hit Hanoi directly.

It’ll just rain a little. It’s always hyped up to be the end of the world typhoon and to seek refuge but I can’t remember the last time I experienced something actually dangerous

Typhoon Bualoi made landfall in northern central Vietnam in the early hours of Monday, damaging houses and knocking out power grids, with at least nine people dead and 17 missing as the storm brought flooding rains and huge swells.

By 11am, the typhoon was moving over Nghe An province into Laos, with maximum wind speeds weakening to 74km/h (47 mph) from 117km/h when it made landfall, the weather agency said.

State media said rescue teams were searching for 17 missing fishermen.

Before making landfall, Bualoi had moved along the country’s coastline for several hours, causing waves as high as eight metres (26 feet), according to the national weather agency.
