I'll tell you what's going on as far as my understanding goes. No one is privatising the existing and established medical colleges. The plan is to go towards a PPP model (public private partnership) for new medical colleges. One such medical college of the three proposed is in remote area too.
The advantage with PPP is that, private firms will invest in these colleges and hospitals instead of thegovernment. So there is the efficiency of a private investment but under the controlling guidelines of the government. Certain portion of seats and patients will be allotted under government category in these institutions.

Let me know if you got any doubts or if there are any changes necessary in my understanding

How is PPP= privatisation. Privatisation means u r giving away completely the ownership of the establishment to private players . Something like GOI did with air india . PPP has many sub models and primarily it is the private players who construct the building , get the infrastructure and over time it will handed over to the govt . Something which is being done for national highways . With the rising fiscal burden on the govt due to continuous useless welfare schemes by both govts , this is the way to increase the capital infrastructure of the state . 8500 crores has been estimated budget sanctioned by central govt for 17 medical colleges in 2020-21 and 1500 crores has been spent by the previous regime by june 2024 . Even in the completed projects there is shortage of staff . Hence current govt resorted to PPP model . Today nearly all the airports are being run under PPP model . Where big infra companies like GMR or L&amp;T construct the airport , maintain it for a particular duration and later hand over it AAI . There is PPP model being introduced in ISRO too where private players use the ISRO infra and expertise to Fastrack the building of rockets, technical parts etc . PPP is nothing new to this world nor to the state . we are letting private players in for bug money and efficiency. Definitely its not foolproof but currently a necessary evil to build the capital infrastructure.

I don’t think it’s politicians only, it’s India’s rich, famous and sports stars too. 
It makes me think that the doctors practicing in India are not the best, the cream has gone elsewhere. But then on the other side is blooming medical tourism, which I believe is growing ten fold.

Because they have money, you should go too if have it. Indian education system (including IITs and NITs) is filled with corruption at core. It’s not worth it to study extremely hard to go to such institutions in India, you can get admission in a better uni in a foreign country with much lesser effort.

1. Major medical treatment is the key here. I studied at the uni where yuvraj got treated for cancer, actually even worked in that cancer center, even though my work isnt medical exactly but more about designing experiences in medical / IT sector. 

The key here is experimental or new methods access. Major illnesses have a very good access to new up and coming treatments overseas. Especially at research hospitals. 

I also suspect this is as the case because of the amount of research money poured in(or used to be poured in by govt) by govt and pharma and unis. 

I know 2 top cancer surgeons in india and they very regularly come to US (funded by indian american doctors fellowship programs) to learn new technology and treatments. They literally spend weeks stuck in surgery rooms, their wives are my school friends so we have vacation time. But the way they discuss, the discipline, the research is very different here. 

This is also a top reason for me to believe because my SiL is on the medical team of a top politician and she too has international fellowship (i dont know the right work they are basically doctor committees over mamy countries who research and train together) these international doctor connections help her keep upto date with new treatments that could benefit her patients. And thats why she has those patients in the first place. 

2. Experience of patient differs wildly. I feel indian medical system is good for the population size it has. But here irrespective of everything they spend a very significant portion of time focusing on personalizinf treatments and lifestyle for patient. It feels failry easier to be a patient here as long as you have the money. 

3. Those talking about medical tourism. So i do believe indian medical system is absolutely top tier. Absolutely has potential. Definitely lacks bedside manners and patient communication. But medical tourism feels more for procedures that are already tried tested and established as the norm of treatment. To find patients doing medical tourism for experimental treatments is rare in india. 

Why do i talk about ezperimental treatments? Because these quite literally used to take decades to be researched and established as a safe form of treatment. It needs protocols to be developed over multiple years too. I definitely think its gotten fasted now  but it still takes couple of years to make its way over as a form of treatment and with added equipment upgrades etc to every corner of the world. 

Dont come at me for indian doctors are any less. I lived with 3 FiL, BiL and SiL, we have discussed the problems. I dont have anything against indian doctors i do trust them but there are more things to be improved too.

Hospitals around my city have a bad reputation of overcharging, over-prescribing, and treating without sufficient diagnosis. People who can afford, visit the nearest city of the adjacent state because of this. 

It's due to the classic indian mindset: we won't make our system better; but will go and use a better service that we can afford.

I would blame reservation too...more then half of the seats are filled by low scoring candidates and deserving ones are forced to choose different course and also the middle class kids can't afford private clgs so here in India most of the mbbs students are either super rich or are from reserved category and this doesn't stop here even if you want to become a govt doctor again you have to grind through this discrimination that's the reason why our government hospitals lack basic standards and treatment cost of private hospitals are not worth it for the service they provide

Building medical colleges is the least expensive part, it’s the staff, equipment and maintenance that requires 1000s of crores  every year and after receiving all the benefits what does the students do? They go to a private hospital and earn lakhs per month. 

So why does the govt need to get loan money for high interest when at the end the state or people don’t get any benefits? 

Are the students ready to work five or ten years compulsory at state medical hospitals? Then yes, else we don’t have the money.

I also oppose heavy usage of charter flights by the current govt and any expense made by govt that is not useful to public or create employment. 

Our first priority should be generating employment and revenue to the state, we are already at the lowest in south India and don’t expect to see at the lowest of India.

FYI, there is something in between government and private college. Which is PPP. Privatization privatization ruddadam aapandi please. 

PPP has its own advantages and disadvantages as do all of them being 100% controlled by government.
