Time to provide Ukraine with large number of drones, at least 1000 a day, to send eastward every day to overwhelm Russia’s defenses and destroy their ability to attack. I am going to say this, Russia doesn't strike civilians, they strike military and important infrastructure that is being used by Ukrainian forces. When you see Russia striking such infrastructure or trains, is because those trains where actually troops going to reinforce the battle front. Zelensky is losing the war by the day and every strike Russia does, is a "civilian target" and screams "terrorism" like what he did with assassinations on civilian targets was not terrorism.

Because one, the Russians have heavy air and sea defences in the area around the bridge meaning that beyond expending an enormous amount of very hard to replace strike munitions, any attack is unlikely to succeed.

Two, unconventional attacks have become more difficult as the Russians have increased border and pre-bridge checks to prevent the sort of VBED attack that was launched last time.

Three, bridges, particular larger bridges like the Kerch Strait are not easy to take down and require alot of explosive power to damage permanently. 

And four, Russia has completed new highway and rail links from Rostov to Kherson that render the bridge unnecessary for military logistics, making any strikes for Ukrainian propaganda purposes. With the failure of the Ukrainian counter offensive in 2023, the idea of isolating Crimea via the destruction of the Kerch Strait bridge by and large died.

Because bridges are very hard targets to take down. Their profile is very narrow and small but very strong for its size because it needs to support the weight of the traffic going over it. You need big precision weapons and have them hit directly at the supports to actually take them down. 

If you want to be cynical, the answer is the west wouldn’t give Ukrainian the weapons that can accomplish that mission because of the fear of escalating the war beyond just Ukraine and Russia.

Edit: due to the strategic nature of the bridge the Russians probably way over built it and there are a lot of air defense around it specifically because they know the Ukrainian wants to take it out very badly.

Alternate possibility, to those excellent points already made: maybe they don’t want to. 


When T.E. Lawrence was fighting the Ottomans in the First World War, he was extremely careful *not* to destroy the Hejaz railway beyond repair. This was deliberate. If the railway were completely destroyed, the Ottomans would simply abandon positions that relied on the railway, or develop an alternate way of keeping troops supplied. With the railway merely damaged, the Ottomans would have to devote resources to repairing it, as well as continuing to protect it at all times. 


The Kerch bridge sector is probably one of the most well-defended spaces in the battlespace. It’s bristling with AA, Naval, and Air assets, all the latest in Russian interception technology to put a stop to any strike. In addition, after the previous strikes, Russia spent an enormous amount of time, manpower, and money repairing the bridge. If tomorrow, the bridge were obliterated beyond all repair, those anti-air emplacements would be shifted to other spots in the line, shoring up weaknesses across the front. Those air and naval assets could be recalled or placed in other sectors to be used as attacking forces. And Russia would immediately bite the bullet and start work on different ways of supplying Crimea and the southern flank, many of which would be long-term more effective than the Kerch Bridge

They've been trying. The bridge is designed with its potential vulnerability in mind so its exceedingly hard to bring down. There are some stuff they could still get from NATO that would help, ALOT being ballistic in nature, but its way more cost effective to use such assets for other high value targets when they've been getting away with temporarily putting it out of commission with lower value options and aren't even in a position to make a move on Crimea. The Russians have also long since shifted the weight of their wartime logistical effort to the land bridge through Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson, hence why Prigozhin taking Rostov-on-Don during his fake putsch was another massive missed opportunity on his part, since he had the whole southern front in jeopardy for basically no bloodshed. That's also why that summer offensive would have been extremely dangerous to the Russians if it had succeeded since the Ukranians would have started to bend or even cut their most important logistical highway.

Believe me, if the Russians collapse and Crimea becomes open to Ukranian attack, you WILL see that bridge fall into the Black sea in 8k and from every available angle. Until then, it will stand and occasionally be closed when beneficial. Right now, its more important to keep this drone strategic bombing campaign going and keep bombing oil refineries.

The initial truck bomb attack was quite successful at limiting the bridge’s capacity to carry heavy rail freight which is what matters most for Russian logistics. To this point, Russia had resorted to using rail ferries to cross the Kerch Strait with fuel and heavy equipment until they themselves were sunk in August of 2024. So while the bridge itself wasn’t destroyed its usefulness to Russian logistics was significantly degraded by the initial attack, and likely somewhat more so by the follow on USV attack. Functionally taking the bridge out of action and making further strikes more of a propaganda victory than a meaningful impact on Russian logistics.

To support their war efforts in Southern Ukraine Russia built a rail line that offered a much shorter route for materiel heading to the front than the Kerch Bridge. Recently though (August 2025) this rail line has been targeted by long range drones, a fuel train was destroyed on it with the destroyed rail cars still on the rail line, blocking its use.

Which brings us back to the Kerch Bridge in September of 2025 as the only available rail route for heavy equipment and fuel into Crimea and parts of Southern Ukraine.  Ukraine has more domestically produced long range strike weapons now than they did in 2023 and 2024, whether any are capable of destroying the bridge remains to be seen but its worth remembering the initial truck bombing attack was timed with the crossing of a fuel train to maximize damage. 

A lot of answers point out Russian air defense near the bridge which is perhaps a factor but certainly not a limiting one. Ukraine has successfully hit a number of targets in Kerch with long range missiles, most notably the Corvette Askold in Kerch Harbor at the base of the bridge and the aforementioned rail ferries on the far side of the strait. From October of 2022 until the last one was sunk in August of 2024 those rail ferries were the primary means of moving fuel and heavy equipment across the Kerch Strait, they were in effect the rail bridge.
