Israel does not have enough people to do a ground-invasion or regime change. It'd require the EU and the United States' getting in this mess.

Iran is not a pariah state like Saddam's regime was. I can't imagine Russia, China or even India completely sitting out here. They would likely provide internal logistical and ammunition support for Iran to resist an occupation.

The only people that would benefit from an invasion and toppling the regime would be Israel and Saudi Arabia. After the central authority in Iran collapses, a civil war between Kurdish, Arab, Azeri and Balochi Rebels is guaranteed. There are already movements on the ground today engaging guerilla warfare. 

Furthermore, all the surrounding states in region would chip in to back those rebel groups to stretch their influence.

I fail to see the logic of the arguments in this article.

Israel failed in its objectives, because regime has not changed in Iran and because some Iranian BM got through and depleted Israeli air defenses - but were those the objectives?

Furthermore the author suggests Iran military recovered quickly from the initial decapitation attack - but supports this only by Iran's ability to launch BM strikes.

But what about defending Iran's own airspace? If Iranian military recovered so quickly why was it not able to take down more than a handful of drone flying over its own sky?

What about the failure of the expensive proxies in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon - what were they doing during this war?

What about military capabilities or options *other* than BMs? Seemed like Iran was firing them because it was the only thing it *could* do. 

e: As to Iran's nuclear option - I am fairly sure Israel never set to achieve total destruction of Iranian program, it was obvious from the start only US *may* have this capability. The strategic or diplomatic goal of the war seems to have been about sending a message that Israel (and US) are willing to start a war over it. This is a simple yet powerful message to IRGC that the cost of pursuing this endeavor would be high, perhaps too high to be worth it, it's not really about destroying *everything* (though that would be nice).

Hard to see how with such narrow-view analysis the conclusion of another war anytime soon, let alone by the end of the year, can be taken seriously.

Also IRGC are currently struggling to supply water and electricity to large areas of Iran. Seems like another war with Israel, even without US intervention, is the last thing they need.

Interestingly I've heard some reports that weekly sermon/address of the IRGC leader have shifted focus from Islamic theme to more Persian Empire themed - this may be anecdotal but it may be further indication that Iranians, while certainly not great lovers of Israel, see no reason they should pay the price for a Palestinian war, and the IRGC is responding by toning down this rhetoric. Another war would only make it worse in this regard.

The *next* war? When did this current war they're fighting end? The missile strikes may have ended, but the war is still ongoing. Has been for some time.

When it's not being fought via direct engagement, it's being fought economically, diplomatically, via proxies, and in cyberspace, to name a few other fronts.

The article is nonsense, but it's worth breaking down exactly how and why:

**Why**:
That's pretty simple, the writer was writing dovish articles regarding U.S. policy towards Iran for years now - that an hawkish course of action was effective and pretty much painless is a reality that they couldn't accept into their analysis - and that bias shows.  

**How**:
Since the writer couldn't depict hawkish policies as effective, the recent Israel-Iran war had to be depicted as a counterproductive failure.  
They did it by the book، exaggerating the goals and costs while downplaying the achievements:  
- Weakening Iran’s hand regionally and in negotiations with the U.S. turned into full regime collapse.  
- Pushing the nuclear program back turned into eliminating it completely.  
- Having the U.S. strategically bomb the few targets Israel didn't have the specialized munitions for turned into dragging the U.S. into a full blown war with Iran.
- Iran hitting a few buildings (mostly residential) and causing 32 random Israeli casualties total throughout the war is described as "unsustainable damage".

There's an assumption running through the entire thing that Iran has unlimited money and resources - it could rebuild it's air defenses, rebuild the proxy network, and rush to a nuclear bomb, all while overwhelming Israeli air defenses with an endless supply of ballistic missiles.   
The facts that all of those things are expensive, that Iran’s economy is smaller than the Israeli one, that Iran’s main supplier is preoccupied in Ukraine, or that until those air defenses are replaced there's nothing to stop Israel from bombing any Iranian progress in rebuilding, are ignored.  

Then there are points in this article that are so absurd I just can't take them seriously:
- The notion that the vague limited sympathys of an unsuccessful dissident movement is of any import.  
- "An artist in Tehran" claiming that they used to oppose sending money to proxies but now that the proxy network  collapsed and Iran found itself bombed freely, they support it... 
- the notion Iran gained some special insight into penetrating Israeli air defenses (it was never complicated - shoot more and more will get through. Works better with cheap rockets as opposed to expensive ballistic missile)
- the notion that "controlling the enemy's airspace is not substantial aerial dominance" (yes, they do actually say that)

I wouldn't be surprised. It was a ceasefire with no agreements via diplomacy between involved parties. I don't remember seeing them trying to talk at all.

Breaking apart Iran like Syria, Lebanon, Iraq etc, and creating a greater Israel has always been the primary focus of the U.S. in the middle east (whether that is really in the U.S interest is a different story). The whole nuclear thing is just an excuse. Remember "weapon of mass destruction" in Iraq?

Iran has a good chance to win a war of attrition again since the iron dome has been proven to be a joke. Based on what some may ask? The current ceasefire. Remember the U.S president himself demanded unconditional surrender from Iran, and mentioning regime changes not long ago.

If US/Israel were truly winning. Why ceasefire? Why not bringing Iran to its knee, break it apart, and install a pro-US government like what the U.S has been doing around the world in the past decades?

The U.S/Israel are not peaceful countries that known for preventing wars. quite the contrary I would argue.

The "12 days war" wasn't The War. It was an offensive of the war. 


The actual war was (is) fought against the Islamic Revolution and aligned forces. Hamas &amp; PIJ. Ansar Allah. Hezbollah and such. Also Iran itself. The "12 day offensive" was the *second* time Iran and Israel had exchanged fire in the war.

Both the US, Israel and maybe others would possibly intervene on behalf of a plausible opposition... but there is no organized or armed opposition challenging the IR regime. So... there are no options for making that happen. 


Otherwise... this article is grossly overstating and understating different elements to make an "*Iran strong, Israel weak"* argument.

Otoh... Iran launched fewer and fewer missiles as the 12 days progressed. By the end they were firing from the east side of the country... as launchers became too vulnerable in the west.


Israel's offense OTOJ never reached peak. At the start it was all stealth fighters firing from distance. By the end... there were f-16s and  drones overhead. The biggest day was the last... making Trump get mad at Israel.

Serious damages to the Middle Eastern oil supplies as result of the fall of the Iranian regime;

- no more drones and missiles from Iran 
- some loss of face to Putin 's allies
- even less Russian presence in the Middle East

- many including the EU have to come back to Russia for oil
- high oil prices
- lessened fear of the total China dominance 
- another draining of the US due to a major war. The war that cannot afford
- if there are nuclear strikes in Iran, now it's the green light for Russia in Ukraine 

Looks like net positive for Putin and he just may give Iran just enough rope to hang themselves along with the oil fields.

I feel like Iran is testing defenses and forcing them into shelters every hour to hurt them, as much as they can. However, I also think Israel’s air power have made them skittish about deploying launchers, so I presume they will wait to do a big attack until they’re sure AD has been drained and they’ll have maximum impact.

My dad retired recently after 29 years in the military. Just got off the phone with him. His main concern is a cyber attack, mostly hitting electric and banking. Keep everything charged, stock up on water, make sure you have a plan to reunite your family especially your kids (like at an amusement park have a designated area they should go to or stay at, plus trusted adults in case you’re delayed), have some cash. My dad is an Apache and a former high ranking NCO combat veteran, he doesn’t get excited and is not an alarmist (he had no personality whatsoever), and he has major concerns.

I’m honestly concerned that some kind of retaliation (either from Iran or by someone they can accuse of being from Iran) is what he’s waiting for so he can send his gestapo after anyone who looks middle eastern… like the internment of Japanese Americans in ww2. He’ll say there’s precedence and they’re a national security risk. Congress won’t get off their ass to get in his way. - The retaliation toward Trump/the US for initiating the three attacks without declaring war first

In General
- How this is going to affect relationships/interactions between the US and other countries. Most worrisome Russia and China 
- What these actions mean for the market in the coming years 
- The fact that our President is 79, 80 next year and his mental capacity. Along with the fact he has essentially started WWIII and hasn’t been in office for seven months yet (just second term)
- Just how much AI is truly being used without any transparency 

Lastly and most importantly the inability to rely on hardly any media outlet to report without bias, cover ups, and exaggeration. We are in a SHIT storm of uncertainty and noise coupled with accelerationism and there isn’t any way around the fact that things are going to get a lot worse and maybe never better. 

At this point, just turn on the Simpsons.. closest thing to a crystal ball we’ve ever had. 

I live in America so technically I’m an American, but at the end of the day we are all humans, living on the same floating rock. Don’t forget to go out and talk to your neighbors, love your family and friends, treat others with kindness and grace, and be the change you wish to see in the world.

I’m kind of at the point where I’m resigned. There’s no combatting nuclear war. There’s no reason to try and survive that kind of reality imo. I say we just live our lives. There is a general consensus that Iran has a number of sleeper agents in the states so we could see sabotage of critical infrastructures and transportation. I wouldn't be flying anywhere in the near future.

Well, gas is likely to get quite a bit more expensive as Iran cuts off the Strait of Hormuz, as almost 25% of the world's oil passes through there. Any other goods from those parts of the Middle East will also be delayed. 

If you have a loved one in the military, there's now a higher chance of mobilization, since Iran is very likely to retaliate with strikes on US bases in the Middle East. There will likely be higher security protocols on US bases.

There's a decent chance that Trump has just gotten the US into another war. Protests are likely. There will be even more political chaos. The cabinet members and their aides who would be in charge of conducting that war and collecting intelligence to make good decisions and protect the US from attack are essentially useless. The Secretary of Defense and Director of National Intelligence are currently not being allowed to brief the president because he doesn't trust them. 

Unless congress decides to assert their constitutional right to make decisions about entering wars and also tells Trump no, we're about to have a bad time.

Difficult to know what the Iranians will do. One possibility, already mentioned by Iranian leadership, is to “close the Straits of Hormuz.”  This can be done by sinking a very large crude tanker or, if they damage a couple of tankers, raise insurance rates to where it’s uneconomical to transport oil from the Persian Gulf. 

Only a small fraction of US petroleum energy comes via the Gulf but on the other hand, about a quarter of the world’s energy comes from there. So any interruption in flow will very adversely affect other world economies, in Asia for example. Also, making 25% of the oil ‘unavailable’ will cause massive spikes in the cost of remaining oil, putting a drag on economies around the world. 

In practical terms, fill up gas tanks, especially propane tanks. Anticipate an even worse economy and prepare accordingly. Note that food prices are already spiking due to the lack of workforce to pick fruit, cherries for example. If fuel prices spike, so will food and transportation costs.

So first and foremost: don’t panic. 😊 Look to past historical events to predict future events. While the idea of ‘sleeper cells being activated’ is a popular right wing talking point designed to keep people in fear, it’s not super likely. The average person in our country is under FAR more surveillance than you can imagine, even a whiff of otherness puts you in greater scrutiny. We are ALL being surveilled to differing degrees. We’ll probably be subject to a higher degree of cyber attacks, but that’s already happening every day. *Could* something happen to create a disruption, sure, but it’s likely to be a matter of a day or two, but expect more along the lines of massive data breaches, update your passwords accordingly. 

We haven’t put boots on the ground which would be a MAJOR escalation, and we’re not likely to see any retaliation beyond a lone wolf type attack. It’s just not feasible for any country to attack us directly. Gas is likely to go up in the short term (we topped off our toys and reserves several days ago), but the response is what determines if that stays around long term. Markets will be volatile upon opening, but will stabilize according to the response. Maybe a week or two, so don’t panic and start selling off or closing accounts. Long term outlook remains the same.   

No scenario is off the table, of course, but you have to weigh the actual likelihood of various scenarios. Could there be some MK ultra, Manchurian candidate holding dirty bombs ready to unleash on the US public? SURE, but it’s highly unlikely. Personally, I’m not at a level where I’m filling water bobs, using credit cards to up my food storage, or dumping money into specific preps. As is usual (especially during storm season!), I keep my battery packs charged, a good amount of cash on hand, keeping my fuel reserves topped up (however that looks for you), enough ‘stuff’ to bug in for a few weeks, a plan if I need to leave, and keeping up to date on news both foreign and domestic. The next few days and how the major powers respond will dictate how I change things up.

At least here in North Europe the only thing we should be preparing for is the rising petrol/gas/oil prices (and the prices of groceries since most stuff is transported to shops and stores by trucks). I'm a lot more worried about what's happening domestically regarding the growing police state and Palantir. I feel like a war with Iran will be handled with airborne tech and smart bombs. The country won't stand for boots on the ground again.

I'm a healthcare worker. The industry never not the opportunity to recover after COVID, RFK is a loon, society doesn't understand how Medicare actually works. I'm going to get high on my days off, protest in uniform when I can, and take care of my patients until I have a better idea.

My guess? Protesters haven't been violent enough, and Trump's / Republicans' plans need martial law. Anger Iran enough and eventually there will be a foreign terrorist attack on American soil - just like how Republicans used stochastic terrorism domestically to pressure mass shootings. Or like GirlWithWolf pointed out, maybe it will be cyber attacks - they can be terrifying because there is no one to stop, it just feels like random violence. Or collapse of supply chains. Or power distribution. And so on.

Maybe that will play out, maybe it won't. Maybe there's more behind the scenes and Iran will be contained. Or Israel will be. All we can do is prepare for most likely scenarios as best we can and form communities for mutual aid.

Man, ignorance is bliss, I wish I were that way at times, but ignorance is infuriating and a major turn off for some, but I have found that usually there are underlying issues that make you feel different about someone for saying ignorant things. I had a girlfriend at a time when I was younger and she was about as dumb as a box of rocks and ditsy and her ignorance was tolerable and kinda cute and funny and we had a good relationship, where my last girlfriend was a narcissist with bad spelling and straight up stupid about everything and her ignorance I couldn’t tolerate longer than 5 years. So what is the difference between the two girlfriends? It was cute when one did it and infuriating when the other did the same?

Well, we all have gaps in our knowledge of things. I came up through school when they were doing this integrative subject stuff, so I had a three period class block that integrated social science, language, history, literature. It didn't really work lol I can now look back and see the gaps in my knowledge and how certain subjects weren't prioritised. I since have been reading classic literature and fortunately I have always had a keen interest in history, so I've read a lot just for fun. 

Your wife presumably has many good qualities, but you say 'now I don't know' because she didn't know something about a different country? My youngest daughter (18) has said things like what your wife said, and it's freaking adorable. When one of her older sisters, her dad, or I explain it to her, she gets all sheepish and says 'duh' and it's cute. It just is something she didn't ever hear about before or heard in a context that she didn't understand. Give your wife a squeeze and a kiss and move on. I'm sure every one of us, including you, has said something 'dumb' because we just never learnt about it.  🤷🏻‍♀️

Someone who doesn't keep up with Israeli defense tactics wouldn't automatically know what an IRON DOME is. It makes sense for someone who doesn't know about those things to think it's an actual iron dome since thats what they call it. What other way is there to interpret the words *iron dome* ?

My beautiful, intelligent and immensely caring little woman of a partner I have had a stupid moment. And she had the cutest possible reaction, it just made me love her 10x more, honestly. 

She couldn't figure out why her blind spot assist stopped working randomly one day. She couldn't figure it out for years, were long distance, and I started dating her only recently. I didnt really know about her car, Ive never seen it. 

As for her blind spot assist, its a brand new car and this cute little gem of mine hit a button with her knee that disables it. She couldn't figure it out for years until she took it to a mechanic that pushed the button and showed her where it was 😭 

Shes the most intelligent, kind hearted and beautiful little woman ive ever dated and a button got the better of her 🥹
