Well, India has a huge population and there are surely more and more students applying because of improved conditions in India. When I went to college 50 yrs ago, I never met even one Indian student. Now the H-1B visa costs $100k. Indians make up something like 70% of those. So, even if Indians can get an education in the US, it may not open up the job opportunities it once did.

There's a slim chance that bulk slots will open up now. Expect things to stay as they are, and ppl either defer to spring intake or in the worst case, choose a different country since the slots aren't going to magically increase for future intakes if the vetting process is increased but the staff/resources aren't proportionately increased.

I think it's the right move. The US should limit the intake of international students heavily. It sucks for students looking forward to experience the US education. But, it is a better fate for most of them who have secured admission at mid-low tier universities.

The new H1B rules will make it super hard for new grads to obtain the visa. And it is hinted heavily that OPT is going away.

 Without stem-opt, a lot of students will go back with a debt ~ 1CR which will become a crisis when it happens at a large scale.

They should restrict the visa to only the top institutions. This is much more preferable to the opt being cancelled abruptly when you are about to join a company.

Why do Indian kids want to come to the US? There are no jobs here after you graduate! There has been a serious decline in the number of jobs that sponsor a H1B. Even if you get a H1B, the path to a GC is distant and potentially many decades long. Choose an easier battle, US immigration will tire you and break you!

Most of the companies have stopped sponsoring H1, job market is already bad, companies haven’t lifted their hiring freezes and are neither filing GCs. Not sure if new grads are researching and realizing this before coming here. If they just want to come for education, or making instagram reels on Golden Gate Bridge and time square then they should definitely come but god bless them if they plan to do this on education loan.

Let's assume there are 100 good universities in the US (imo, a stretch) with 300 indian students each. 

That's still 30k. Triple it, and still 90k. Where the hell are 330k Indians going ?

Rejections are a good thing. Better to reject them now than break their dreams 5 years later when STEM OPT ends and there are no H1bs in store. 

I empathize with doing anything to escape India. It sucks to be poor or middle class here. But the US does not owe people anything. Least of all those who find loop holes and exploits in good faith systems.

Stop your population is the ultimate answer. USA is not entitled and if they feel they are over populated they have every right to cancel the visas. If I know I have one guest bedroom I won’t allow 10 people to sleep over.  But unfortunately it’s not the case with many nationalities.
