This also goes to show how much work actually goes into making a metro line operational that too an underground one which our city has never got before. Hopefully they are able to find ridership and a good response from the public because this one will  definitely be one of the most crucial lines of our city, in my opinion

Why isn't Marol connected from within? I remember going out on the road and then climbing back to the connected metro (Gatkopar-Versova). If there's another way, then the CRPF lady misdirected me.

This might be small feedback that you can't do much about but can the digital interface showing stations in the trains be changed? It is very difficult to read the small font on the screen in aqua line, much easier in red/yellow line. 

Everything else looks great though and glad the line is nearing completion!

How seamless is the connection between getting down from a suburban train at CST and then taking the metro?

We have already seen how pathetic the T2 metro station is. Far away from the arrivals and no direct/dedicated exit to and from the airport. I guess only recently a direct connector was built in place.

I loath metro stations without a roof. If it is raining it is so much more appropriate to open your umbrella under a roof than to open it below and walk up the stairs, especially if you have baggage.

Since I am a transit planning professional based in Mumbai who works with MMRC officials as a planning consultant I can answer your questions about this station with some factual authority.  
So in case you're wondering why no roof? here's what happened:-

1. we had literally made canopies which were compliant with the local architecture? guess what UNESCO did REJECTED THEM!!!
2. they said that it was blocking the view of "muh world heritage centuries old buildings, even if the architectural style is compliant it still is obstruction that destroys historic value" and threatened that "it risks mumbai losing the world heritage city tag"
3. now ofc you have weather proof outdoor escalators so we had a workaround for that but weather proof elevators don't exist, so we had to make transparent glass elevator shafts that are see through to please them and the only historic looking structure they allowed us was also a elevator and ventilation shaft.
4. iirc from what i heard through a friend of mine who works in Bombay High Court, MMRC, the authority that builds and operates this metro, also appealed in the courts against UNESCO, but the courts gave their verdict in favour of UNESCO's decision.
5. These open air entrances actually ended up costing MMRC more than closed roof ones since weather proof outdoor escalators, rainwater drains and pumping systems and flood protection barriers dramatically raised the project costs.
6. Still MMRC officials have reassured me that if need arises they will install glass roofs on top of the entrances at a later date.

“Clean design” I’ll tell you what isn’t clean, the people who have to enter/exit through that staircase during monsoon season.

No amount of “flood proofing measures” is going to make this experience not suck. Even if the station itself is waterproof, having no roof means everyone coming out is going to get drenched.

DC tried this and found that "clean design" wasn't worth having to constantly fix/replace escalators exposed to the elements. It's taken decades but they're finally installing canopies at all uncovered station entrances

Regarding the roof, it was a decision by UNESCO due to the historical nature of the avenue. Can't do much about that and it's not like this is uncommon around the world.

I reckon this is to just cut down on the cost for building an above ground roofed entrance or a canopy. And the way I see, it is going to be a commonplace for new stations from here on out. Simple canopies can be retrofit later anyway.

Not sure about others but I'm pretty sure people living in central line will still choose locals over metro because 

1.It's gonna be cheaper and in some case faster 

2. Lack of connectivity with local railway stations

I would have to change metro 3 times, or 2 even when L7a links up but it will still be slower for me v/s borivali to churchgate fast.

If i lived in the SEEPZ-Andheri stretch? absolutely but otherwise locals still makes more sense for me.

Aqua Line won't be replacing Western Line until the interchanges at T2 and BKC from Red and Yellow lines are functional.

Even if I could tolerate changing to Blue Line (which is crowded as fuck) at Gundavali, the Marol Naka "interchange" is a fucking joke.

Line 3 will be helpful in the beginning. It will spread the crowd over 3 lines however, once the novelty wears out and the word is spread of less crowds, the driving public will switch to these lines and eventually they will become crowded as well.

This phenomenon happens to roads all the time. The govt thinks expanding roads by adding lanes will improve traffic. Which it does in the beginning but once everyone hears about low traffic on these new expanded roads, everyone flocks to them causing even more traffic. 

I am not an urban planner and would love to be wrong on this one.

In Mumbai , priorities are always wrong. WR clealry says there are more commuters in Andheri virar sector than Andheri churchgate section. But more and more commute options are prioritized in the later section. Bottlenecks are going to remain as it is . When Mira-Bhayandar Metro opens there might be a slight relief in local trains, and we might see an actual shift of crowds to metro.

Local is best - cheap, efficient, fast, no changing of trains, no long lines for baggage checking. Metro is good for 5-10 stations (Metro Stations) distance.

I would use metro 3 for Airport, Siddhivinayak (the first two phases cover both of it), Mumbai Central &amp; mumbai darshan.

I would be very happy if I use it for daily purposes than Railways but it would be crowded by then due to other metro lines being in shape for operations.

In Mumbai, distance is measured in time. It will the biggest decider for many. If I'm getting to a place half-an-hour faster, why would I choose a comfortable, but slower commute. It will make sense if the commute times are similar and I'm to choose between the two. In that case, metro will win hands down. However, if one is to choose between comfort and time, people will choose time.

Metro line 3 is useless for central suburbs- talking about Bhandup and beyond.

It doesn’t connect to any a station on central line, except Dadar (which is like 1km away) and CST which is the final station but has no connectivity for central line suburbs. As long as metro 4 is concerned it’s a good 4yrs away for the complete line to start. Even then the first interchange is Kanjur and then 3-4kms to aarey or change to line 5 and reach aarey! Complete hassle.

Metro 3 and even Atal Setu for that matter- are completely designed for the SoBo’s to get their work done from south to north and get back.

Just look at the aarey jvlr metro station. Once you come out there is no public transport or autos. There is not even proper footpath to walk. The traffic in JVLR is also worse and you won’t get any transportation unless you park your vehicle somewhere near.
