After looking at the areas that were hit today (CISA, CDFI, HRSA, AHRQ, CDC, etc.) and comparing it to the FY26 Discretionary Budget Request, there definitely seems to be a correlation. These were definitely the pre-planned rifs they wanted to do back before they started getting pushback. I would take a look at the FY26 budget request and prepare accordingly.

I miss the Biden years. I was never a huge Biden fan,  but I dont think he hated fed employees.  My TSP doubled during Biden and  I could buy coffee,  bread, beer, milk,  and cereal for less than 60 bucks (which is what I paid for these 5 items just last night and this was at the "cheap" store). Also, masked, obese thugs weren't in the street terrorizing people.  We weren't a global pariah. The first lady wasn't besties with Putin. Joe wasn't hawking 500 dollar Biden watches on TV. It's all so sad and embarrassing and unnecessary. 

I retired in July after nearly 40 years and  feel for all my fellow feds who aren't in a position to retire or otherwise leave. You're certainly all essential to me.

1) They can’t do RIFs during a shut down and they have to pay us. These are laws, not OMBs “opinion”.

Russell Vought is going to fire every last person he can get away with firing, and will do so without caring about the letter or spirit of the law.  The shutdown gives him neither more power nor more of a reason to do so than he believes he has on every other day of this administration.

To buy the premise of the threat, one has to believe that Russell Vought has identified federal employees that he believes he can fire with impunity, but without the shutdown, he would leave them in their jobs out of the goodness of his heart.

Russell Vought's heart contains no goodness.

At \*best\* (for some definition of that word that exists only in the bleak darkness of these orange times), there might exist some federal employee that Vought has marked for termination, that he will dispatch now as an example as opposed to waiting to some other time when dispatching them might bring him joy.

Federal workers aren't scared by the threat, because it's meaningless.  

If not firing you would be beneficial to Russell Vought in some way, he won't fire you.  If firing you would be beneficial to Russell Vought, he will fire you.  Everything else is just noise.

All they have to do is pass the House clean CR, and we can reopen the government, and then we can negotiate on Healthcare.  Trump might be open to negotiating on Healthcare; he's always had better instincts when it comes to that, more than most Republicans. But they've made it clear we can negotiate after the government is open, not now.

First of all, they are not "layoffs", they are either illegal terminations or reductions-in-force ("RIF"s).  

The RIFs are illegal because there is a 30-day notification threshold, etc.  So this will end up in court where Trump will lose.  Again.
