Mahua Moitra is an elected official. She’s expected to show tact and nuance in her response. She’s supposed to condemn the unruly elements of probashi bharotiyo society while also standing up for the law abiding people who want to light diyas, cook some Indian delicacies and celebrate with the diaspora.

The tweet is 💯 valid..it has been a very embarrassing 5 days . As I type this at 9 PM EST on a weeknight of Oct 23rd.. people are still bursting crackers somewhere in my town .. Facebook township page .. ring next door community pages have a petition going to make it a public nuisance a civil charge from next year and calls are out for making it illegal again in New Jersey like it was 5-6 years back. Kids have school tomorrow and most of us work with long commute starting at 6 AM in the morning. So yeah! It is simply their reaction to foreigners causing them nuisance. We would react the same way if white people came to our country and celebrated a festival with air-polluting fireworks and blocking roads. Of course (i'm hindu too), hindus will get offended at ANYTHING, but you fail to understand that they cannot be expected to like our festival/religion at all, and if NRIs are so interested in celebrating Diwali, they must do it in the traditional way with diyas, lights and decorations, not with firecrackers on the streets. For example, where I live, firecrackers in regions with thick green cover aren’t allowed. Lo and behold, during Diwali, a bunch of Indians went into a park with dense tree cover, began bursting crackers well into the night, and did not clean up after themselves. This is just one example out of several.

I somewhat agree with this tweet. As I'm guessing the man is venting out his anger because of the pollution (air and noise) the firecrackers are creating and also the garbage which is not being cleaned after.
