Just remember that the F-35s that Saudi gets will not have the same avionics as ours. I worked on equipment for US and Saudi F-15s. They have similar systems under the hood, but we have hardware that isn’t releasable to foreign countries. They get the Costco brand. Relax.

There's a deeper layer to this many of you won't realize. The F-35 program was a joint venture between the US and its allies. The jets have an integrated network that allows these planes to coordinate and communicate information between eachother.

That means all the countries involved trusted that this network and who was allowed in would be secure and agreed upon.

This move might signal to our allies that they can't even trust us from a national security standpoint and that any future venture with the US might be a backdoor to us compromising their systems.

No, the President cannot unilaterally sell F-35 fighter jets (or any major defense equipment like them) to another country without involving Congress. The sale of F-35s falls under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process, governed by the Arms Export Control Act (AECA).

The advantage of operating F-35s is in extending the timeline where technology becomes available to adversaries or potential adversaries either directly indirectly.
