You have four years left on H1B. Far and away the easiest path to a green card in your shoes is to find and marry a us citizen. Could try to find a different employer, transfer H1B, and see if they will file a perm for you and potentially get an EB2 green card. There are other employment paths that are tougher to get (O1, NIW, etc.) but I'm guessing you may not qualify if your current job doesn't meet the preferred wage determination. Could also change to a student visa, get a grad degree, and buy more time.

Illegal immigrant labor is America's worst kept secret, the United States runs on immigrant labor. It kind of has to in order for specific groups (Middle to Upper Class) to thrive. You can easily find an illegal immigrant cooking food or washing dishes in a kitchen, harvesting the food you're going to see in the grocery store, dismembering a cow to be packaged, to even pushing a housekeeping cart at a hotel. In order to sustain our current standard of living there has to be a marginalized group of people that are taken advantage of.   
  
For example the restaurant industry - 50% of restaurants fail within their first year due to razor thin margins. And now we are getting closer to the breaking point in which even this is no longer sustainable from rising food costs, rent, overhead, and even wages. You can't really cut cost in rent and/or insurance. Sure you could charge more or find ways to cut cost on food, but you are now producing an inferior product. And even the food is either procured through immigrant labor whether it was harvested or butchered in a plant. You see where i'm going with this.

Despite this glaringly big problem/need for cheap labor. Both sides of the political spectrum don't really acknowledge this as a need. 

* The left see immigration as a moral high ground in which they take the founding principles of how America was founded as a basis for why we shouldn't be deporting people here illegally. A majority of illegal immigrants just work hard hoping to attain a better life, and in most cases pay their fair share in taxes etc. And since obviously these individuals are of majority non-white, it's going to be presumed that these groups are being targeted due to racism (which it may be the MO for some). 
* Whereas the right see this as more of a letter of the law type situation. These individuals are here illegally, they are now criminals in the eyes of the law. There's a process and system to becoming an American citizens, staying here illegally makes you a criminal. We pay into social programs to help Americans that are struggling and these individuals here take away from what we have.

This is an oversimplification but, are there illegal immigrants that are actually violent criminals? Yes. Are they all violent criminals? No. So when it comes to deportation it becomes a very black and white issue.

I see answers here that aren’t wrong, but are missing a key point. A lot of immigration is a direct response to America’s foreign policy that creates these chaos pockets of intentional destabilization. 

What is the consequence of overthrowing elected officials in an effort to elect a figurehead that is more loyal to American interests than the interests of their own country?

The direct effect will be people fleeing their homes for the dream they’ve been propagandized to death with. The American dream with the give me your poor and all that.

The US alongside other western countries have a high standard when it comes to humanitarian efforts. We have championed women’s rights and human right in general for the past 70 years all across the globe.

That being said, the US has purposefully gone to other countries and bombed, beheaded and couped the inhabitants, so that their economy is on the U.S. side and aids the US interests. This has caused a lot of bad economic strain on those countries, and now their inhabitants flee their country - to the US, as the US economy remains strong through continuous exploitation.

In case it's not been understood yet, Europe's suffering for their failures as they've now got an immigration crisis on their hands, and they've got less shit going on with it than the US does. We're just able to absorb the impact better due to how things are done over here.

And we've still got the most lenient immigration system anyone's ever seen. They aren't immigrants. Immigration is a regulated process set up for bringing people into a country to (primarily) become citizens. A Visa  is the regulated process for bringing people into a country for temporary work, school or visit. Invaders sneak (mostly through listening to bad advice i.e. "everyone else is going") into a country to take advantage of its citizens, enriching themselves essentially by criminal activity due to them avoiding the legal process. When they are caught, (every country does this) they are ejected and banned from ever coming back.

I think the reason why I hold the country to a higher standard is because we effectively ask people to come here, then provide them with no legal means to do so. It’s the classic, “we wanted workers, but we got people instead”. 

Were are perfectly happy to erode unions, ignore employment law, and hire whomever so long as the fruit gets picked, the babies are looked after, and the houses get built. If the backbone of the country is going to be undocumented workers encouraged to come here via any means necessary, I don’t think you can then chastise them for bringing their culture, expectations, problems, and families with them. Our politicians continually kick the can down the road and now we have arrived at the crossroads so to speak. Illegal immigrants are a huge part of America’s labor force. The only ideal situation I can think of is putting a hard time limit on deportation measures and opening the books up. Background checks and expedited paperwork and get it over with, get rid of anyone else because at that point they’re here intentionally illegally for example maybe they’re wanted elsewhere or they’re actively involved in criminal behavior or whatever (a cartel member working here or hiding here comes to mind I guess). 

I doubt either side would go for that though because they can’t put a political spin on it since it’s straight up helping people.

I was thinking about this the other day. While we weren't the only ones in the new world to do this, our country was mostly built on exploration of slaves, native populations, and various immigrant groups over the years. It would make sense that a country that got it's start with these kind of practices should have "learned their lesson" and be held to a higher standard.

For the most part liberals in the United States are the primary beneficiaries of undocumented immigration.

The immigrants live in border states and agricultural or manufacturing areas and strain *their* housing systems, then produce slightly cheaper food that they sell to the urban area. Smaller, manageable numbers live in the cities with invisible pressures on housing, but mostly living in shitty conditions washing dishes cheaper.

The people that espouse empathy for the undocumented are beneficiaries of it and contributing to income inequality. They don’t argue on that dimension for the most part, and instead try to virtue signal. But you can see the mask slip with liberals asking who will pick the fruit and that it will increase grocery costs. Others are genuinely ignorant and oblivious.

The people that are against undocumented immigration work in fields where the undocumented suppress their wages, or where their undocumented strain their social services.

At the end of the day, neither Republicans nor Democrats have articulated a sensible immigration policy, because both benefit from the status quo. A population of eager workers without the vote who are unable to advocate for their rights because of constant fear of being deported? What problem will be solved by removing less than 2 pct of total US population?  They are likely less than 1 pct of total workforce. There are let’s say 5M Indian origin people in USA, likely less than half of them on visas. So even if you remove let’s say 1M Indians almost half of whom will take their jobs with them to offices in India, how is this not an issue of jealousy and scapegoating.

This is just an easy distraction to hide the broader issue of the rich class making the poor class in US poorer by the day and pointing fingers at Indians as root cause of problem. I'm an American born Indian and I can tell you there is a shift based on social interactions in Texas and California.  This is in big indian communities.  The problem with polls are that they lump is in as asian.  Far east Asians still vote democrat.  Indians vote republican now.

The problem is that the H1-B VISAs are being abused. They are supposed to be used for talent that we don’t have enough of here in the US.  But what is happening is that tech companies are using the H1B visas, which are owned my Indian staffing companies and not the Indian employees themselves and create this low wage worker for highly skilled IT work and the worker can’t do anything about it because the visa is owned by the staffing company.  It’s basically modern day indentured servitude while destroying the market for IT experts.

I am a multigenerational American.  I have several friends and family that have immigrated to the United States legally.  The friends and family come from Peru, Italy, Romania, Great Britain, Philippines and China.  Obviously I support legal immigration, the system should be fixed so they meet deadlines and not lose documents.  I do not support illegal immigration.

NO ONE is divided on LEGAL immigration.  

It is ILLEGAL immigration.

My stance has always been the same.  If folks want to get rid of immigration laws just do it.  Pass a law in Congress to supercede the Immigration Act.  NO surprise on one has done or supported such a law.  The reason?  NO ONE actually believes in total open borders even Dems.

The short answer is that you have to separate legal and illegal immigration. 

For illegal immigration, them circumventing the laws and processes makes legal immigration take significantly longer because the system gets tied up dealing with them and resulting in the 30+ year wait times to process legal visas, and the ones in support of them want an easily exploited labor force to do jobs they feel are beneath them.

For legal immigration, the entire system has become broken woth decade long wait times, laws like birthright citizenship that have become exploited and is a shadow of what it was meant for, and work based immigration havign recently become a way to stagnate industry wages and remove opportunities for local talent due to there beign billion dollar industries made around getting people h1b work visas.
